Labels On The Little Stuff

Placemats, mug rugs, table runners, small wall hangings. I'm thinking about it.
Do you go to the bother or no?

dunster 01-05-2019 09:35 AM

I haven't been going to the bother on anything lately. Shame on me.

I don’t label the small stuff.

Those items are to be used and washed a lot so I don't put labels on them.

Sometimes if they are a gift, I will put a little label folded in half & sewed in with the binding sticking out. I have some pre-made little labels that say "Made with love by my name". I generally don't label my larger quilts but will always put this little sew on label to the edge of the quilt. I know I should make labels that tell more info but I just don't do that. They are little sew in labels like these:

sometimes, on the small things, i put my name and date with micron marker if it's a gift. i also have some small foldable labels, but i need to order more of those.

Nope, I don' sweat the small stuff. My small stuff is usually made from scraps and leftover fabrics. Quilts and Art wall hangings get the labels.

Nope, and I just gifted a lap quilt to s and dil that I forgot to put a label on...

If I'm giving them away, might write with a micron pen "Made for you with love from --my name--year".

quiltingshorttimer 01-05-2019 05:28 PM

nah--they get washed too much and too small to mess with.

I don't label stuff that's meant for 'daily use' like mug rugs and place mats. I treat those things as strictly functional.

I do label nice table runners and small wall hangings because they're decorative and intentionally made to be 'art'.

I do a lot of Project Linus quilts, and was told not to label them with name, date, etc. So instead I had tiny red and white labels made from a company on E-Bay that simple says " You are loved" and use these. Seems to say it all.

The only quilts I put a label on is for the wedding quilts I make for family members or baby quilts. I am ashamed to say I certainly don't put labels on any quilts that I make for myself.

I use a pigma pen to label things I take to my mom at assisted living. I just write my name and date on it.

I think we should all label our quilts just for history's sake.

carol45 01-07-2019 01:00 PM

I put my name, location and year on the binding with the programmed letters from my sewing machine. I do this on gifts that I think the receiver will feel are more special because they have the label on them. It could be done with permanent marker as well.
