Lack of Motivation!
I have hit a serious procrastination mode and not sure how to get out of it. I look at pattern's I want to do and even get to the sorter out colors. I must have 8 UFO's in this house I don't know what it is I just seem to have a block in my head and can't seem to shake it, maybe it's the heat it hasn't been below 100 in 3 weeks.
What do other's do when you hit this snag?? |
That much heat would get me down too. Are you drinking lots of liquids?
Sometimes puting on some music helps get me moving. |
I had a Quilt for Kids quilt that I hadn't sent back. After a gentle reminder from them, that lit a fire under me!:o

I changed from quilting to embroider and figure out the machine is still waiting.....waiting,... waiting.... but the tea towels are getting done.

the virual quilt days help...also when I have a quilt for a person that I chose to make for and a deadline in my head...I need a end date..that really helps me. I have been really good about using my stash. I do find it harder to get started on a quilt though when using my stash rather then buying my new fabrics with a plan in mind.

That happens to me too. I usually look thru quilt magazines etc until the mood changes and then you can't stop me when I want to actually work on a project!!

Oh, take a break. I do. Then once I start playing in my sewing room....the urge to sew comes back. We need to recharge once in a while. Pretty normal.

Sometimes I just take a break from quilting even for a few months and simply do other activities, just like being on vacation for a while.... !

I'm suffering from the same thing, well kind of. I'm itching to work on blocks, mug rugs for gifts, all kinds of stuff but I can't pull myself away from the computer. I tell myself not to even turn it on cuz they I'd probably get some sewing done but I can't walk past it without 'checking my email' and then I'm hooked!
|
I have been in a slump of sorts myself. I have several projects started and then they just sit and gather dust. This is so unlike me, but I think my problem is knowing we are going to be moving but not knowing when and just basically feeling humdrum about anything. In the past, I have just put quilting aside for awhile and not worried about it and usually it does not take long and I am back to quilting frenzy. So, I advise that you just let yourself off the hook and not worry about it....when you are ready it will come back.

Sometimes watching quilt videos helps. The only problem with videos is I want to start a new project instead of finishing ones I already started.
If I force myself to do one step on a block it usualy gets me going again. Also shopping for fabrics gets me going again but that can get expensive. |
Happens to me every time I've finished a project: I want to sew but can't decide what to make, I have an enormous pile of UFO's as it is.So, I sew "baits" for myself. I pick a pretty color fabric from stash, find an interesting block pattern (mostly from Quiltville, Bonnie Hunter's site to keep the block size somewhat constant) and make a block or two just for fun, to get myself going.I also PP small log cabins. All these come handy when a quick small gift is needed such as placemats, potholders, bags ; I have the UFO box to choose from.

I also am in a slump currently my sewing machine is buried under stuff! I have a hand quilting project to finish but is is hot out for that right now. A quilt for my son that is half done, it is all paper pieced and I lost ambition. Maybe when it cools off!! I do spend way to much time on the computer everyday and love seeing what everyone else has gotten done.

I am in a slump, also. I have a couple of projects sitting on my cutting mat waiting for me. I go into my sewing room and look around but can't get my engine going, so I close the door and leave. I imagine I'll get the feeling to sew again pretty soon, so right now I'm doing other things. I've been cleaning my sewing room a bit, but that's the most I've gotten myself to do.

The first Virtual Quilt Day got me started back to quilting. I've done more quilting since then than I had the entire previous year. I' m a real fan of Rachel! Although I'm on vacation, I brought along hand work to do so I could take part in today's Virtual Quilt Day. Oh, when I am at home, I listen to a mystery audio book. Sometimes when I am not that interested in quilting, I go back to it because I want to see how the mystery ends. I only listen to the books in my sewing room and I'm listening to one today while I do my hand appliqué. Best wishes in getting back to quilting.

Wow I guess I'm not alone lol! What is the virtual quilt day this is the first I've heard of that. I've already put post it notes around my sewing area and by the computer no computer time until I get some cutting done tomorrow. We will see how that works - I can easily get side tracked lol

You and me both! Just slogging around as far as quilting goes. I'm hoping it will pass.

The heat has really gotten to me too....and once I get home from work, I have little motivation to do much else. Last week was a better week weather-wise, but now we are back into the 90's...I just give into it and spend more time reading, doing some small projects. Too hot in my sewing room, only have a window air-conditioner in living room.
|
I tell myself that I am going to "sew one seam" and go from there. Invariably, "one seam leads to another!" and off I go.
