I have a probelem with large quilts. They do not fit in my sewing machine. I then heard you can quilt in section. And would like to know how to do that.

How large a quilt are you talking about? I have done twin and full size on my machine. It is tricky, but can be done. I have a friend that does up to queen size on her machine. She has done a kingsize, but said never again!

I have a problem with large quilts too. They just don't seem to quilt themselves.

You quilt in sections by using sashing to connect both back and front. There is a book about Sashiko by Sharon Pederson that details methods for doing this.

there are several different methods for quilting in sections. not all require shashing. click on "search" and search on "quilting in sections". you'll find lots of posts about it right here at the board. in addition to hints and personal experience info, you'll find links to free instructions and more recommendations for books.

Google "quilt as you go" and you'll get a lot of responses on how to quilt in pieces. It basically involves either doing the whole thing in strips and then sewing the top strips by machine and the batting and backing with a slip stitch, or leaving the top and backing intact and cutting the batting in wavy lines and then slipstitching it together as you work your way out. Some methods use sashing...others don't. Anything bigger than a double I do by hand.

You can do any size quilt even king as a quilt as you go cuz what you're doing is many little quilts and putting them together. I do mine in 36 inch blocks. 3 across and 3 down. It's easy.
