To me, that sounds like something a super hero would use. But I was given these as a Christmas gift from someone who knows my recent sewing interest. I doubt I will actually use these much, but they were fun to play with this morning. I think I might have more use for them with paper than with fabric.

Grammy o'5 12-29-2010 11:04 AM

Those look so cool & fun to use!
How do you keep the line from moving as you cut?

Ramona Byrd 12-29-2010 11:04 AM

Interesting. How do they work? Does it mark the fabric some way and then allow you to cut it with laser beams?

dforesee 12-29-2010 11:05 AM

I've seen these advertised before; seems pretty neat to me.

amma 12-29-2010 11:05 AM

The lazer would be very handy squaring up backing, or your quilted top. you could mark along the lazer line and then rotary cut it :D:D:D

Rebecca VLQ 12-29-2010 11:06 AM

Use the force, Hannahjo!

I don't use scissors much, more the rotary cutter. But what a neat gift!

Rachel 12-29-2010 11:06 AM

they'd be great if you wanted to mark your fabric first, but other than that, I'd use them for paper. tee hee Great thought though.

Jeanniejo 12-29-2010 11:07 AM

COOL!!!!

trueimage 12-29-2010 11:08 AM

Maybe next they'll make a laser rotary cutter!!!

luvTooQuilt 12-29-2010 11:09 AM

now only if they can come up with a way for that beam to cut out our patterns we would be in business!!!

sueisallaboutquilts 12-29-2010 11:13 AM

Wow, I didn't know that animal existed!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Airwick156 12-29-2010 11:13 AM

A lady in my small sewing group has a pair of these scissors and I have never seen them with the lasor since the battery has died and she never thinks to replace them. But I do know that she said she loved them.

ann clare 12-29-2010 11:33 AM

Sounds cool.

Scissor Queen 12-29-2010 11:41 AM

I have a pair of those. The laser is not actually in a straight line with the blades though.

dellareya 12-29-2010 11:56 AM

One of my geek sons gave me a pair of these scissors a couple of years ago. I loved them. I even used them as a laser pointer in my class room. I need to replace the battery.
He got mine from Thinkgeek.com. Yep, it is a real place.

Cyn 12-29-2010 12:10 PM

Looks wild!

Raggiemom 12-29-2010 12:43 PM

Those are cool.

Mattee 12-29-2010 02:19 PM

And it's one of my favourite stores!

Oh my!! I'm laughing at myself, because my first thought was that a laser beam that cut fabric would also be dangerous!

sewwhat85 12-29-2010 03:18 PM

may the force be with you LOL

sewwhat85 12-29-2010 03:19 PM

lol

clem55 12-29-2010 04:25 PM

I'd have trouble keeping it lined up on the mark, so I'd still be cutting crooked!

featherweight 12-29-2010 05:00 PM

I watched a video someplace to use these for squaring up your quilt before binding. I think it would work good.

I might have to try that.

quilt3311 12-30-2010 05:06 AM

Never heard of these. Will have to see if I can see one sometime. Do not remember seeing or hearing about them locally.

Oh my gosh! I have a little laser level that my daughter got me (I do a lot of home projects). I never thought to use that for quilting.

michlowe 12-30-2010 05:38 AM

I wonder if you could do the same thing with a laser that lines up pictures on the wall? You could place it on you cutting table and use your ruler and rotary cutter....Hmmm.

eimay 12-30-2010 05:49 AM

I wonder if it works better than electric scissors. I tried those a couple of years ago and it was like driving a cat.

Moon Holiday 12-30-2010 05:52 AM

IMHO these scissors are only as accurate as the person using them. Once you begin to cut, if your hand shifts at all the laser will still be showing a straight line, even if it isn't the line you originally began following.
Hands using scissors are moving so they can always shift direction.

katlady 12-30-2010 06:40 AM

A little advice, do not cut paper with scissors that are intended for fabric as they will not be sharp long.

I would like that. I love gadgets! But I vowed not to buy any more gadgets just cuz they're cool.

stitchofclass2 12-30-2010 09:40 AM

Just remember the "scissors' rule". Once you cut paper...... Maybe you should rethink this. Good luck. They are really too cool.

Leota 12-30-2010 05:57 PM

Oh wow... don't let my DH see those... he's all about the latest and greatest in tools :D

I showed them to him and he asked "if I'd like a pair?"
I replied, "SURE!"
He then said, "Get me your Ginghers and a roll of Duck Tape" Ha ha
He has a small laser level that would fit perfectly on my larger scissors ha ha...

That was my first thought also.
Would like to see them work once.

thats a good idea !!

rona thickpenny 12-31-2010 12:15 AM

goodnes sI did`nt know they exsited how do they work I wonder.

joyceinoh 12-31-2010 09:34 AM

I googled and found them for sale, on line.
Some cost less than $10.00, including S&H
But I could not find a review on that particular scissors,
However the reviews on lazer cutters/scissors that I did find did not rate them overly high.
Think I will wait and see what the rest of you all think about them.
I really like the rotary cutters, and now that I found the blades at a descent price I will probably keep on using those.
But then who knows, my BD is coming up soon. :o)the lazer scissors mite be the thing to ask for.
