Last chance before the check is written....
Tomorrow DH and are heading to a machine shop recommended by a fellow QB member near me. My christmas gift was any machine I wanted to add to the collection. We looked as everything between portable class machines to long arms. And decided on a solid secondary machine with big harp, capable of putting on a frame, and able to do everything but embroidery when the viking is in for its regular service. Dependable, solid, and easy to deal with were also factors.
and the winner is.......Janome 8900QCP if anyone has anything negative to say about this machine i sure would like to hear it. So far all I have seen have been glowing reviews. |
I don't know about that model but I have two Janomes and they haven't given me any problems.
Good for you. My Birthday/ Christmas gift was a Janome 6600P. So far I looove it!
Write the check! I have this machine and I love everything about it. I have gone from a 6600, to a 7700, to the 8900 and it is a winner. I am happy for you :-)

I don't have any experience with that particular model, but my Janome 4000 is still going strong and I love it. I'd say if you have the means to do so, go for it.
Write the cheque. I have 4 Janomes and am about to get another next month. You won't regret it.
I have a Janome "sew perfect" I love it. no problems!
You will love it, I did the same thing and not sorry.
You will be doing the happy dance!!!! I got mine last summer and it still amazes me. What an awesome machine. CONGRATS!!!!
I love my Janomes...I love the 8900! Took it right out of the box, set it up for FMQ according to the book, used the needle it came with, didn't adjust tension, nothing, PERFECT FMQing on the first try. No more eyelashes on the back of the quilt sandwich, I couldn't believe it. I know you will love your machine.

I was doing the happy dance walking to the car. We got to portland and found the store with no issues what ever. The sales guy John was fantastic and answered all my questions. At one point he made the comment that I didnt ask the usual questions, and chuckled. He offered to start right there with private 2 hour classes but said I would probably get more out of it to go home and experiment for a few weeks and then come with a list. No price bartering, no insisting on a trade in. He had a very nice price on it.
Since we are headed to grandma we drug it into the hotel last night and up til one am playing and fondling everything. We even did a walmart run for thread and fabric! No regrets! |
Merry Christmas! How exciting to be getting a new machine!
I'm super excited for you. I've had a Janome 7700 for a couple of years and just adore her (I love my machine so much I decided that something so wonderful could only be a female, and that she deserves a name).
I've got the 7700 Janome Horizon. It's the third Janome I've owned. I'd get the 8900 but I've only had this one for 14 months and still have some bells and whistles I haven't mastered.
Sounds good. I am looking at 8900 myself.
I have a 4900 and a baby f J Jem for classes. Love them both. Janome ROCKS!! Congrats and have fun learning all about your new baby!
Congrats! I love Janome! I just bought my 4th one! The 9900.

I also have a Janome and wouldn't trade it for a Bernina at any cost!

I just ran a post on that same topic: what about the Janome 8900PQC? The response was overwhelmingly in favor of the 8900, with a very enthusiastic response. I only had one woman who said she's bought the machine and now was sorely tempted to "Craig's List" it. I've PM'ed her to find out why. Janome sure inspires confidence and loyalty in their machines! I've had an MC9700 that is a real workhorse, but when it had to be sent in for repair, I was without a machine for almost 3 months. I almost went nuts! So now I want 2 machines so I never have to do without. Oh, yes, and I found a Janome dealer in town, so I no longer have to send it back to the company for repairs - Yeah!!

I was the one who was thinking about selling the Janome, but that is because I want an embroidery machine and wasn't sure I could swing the cost without selling the 8900. I thought I would sell the 8900 and use the money to put toward a Pfaff Creative 3.0 But after talking it over with my husband we think we can swing the cost of an embroidery machine when I get my bonus in March, so I've decided to keep the 8900 and buy a Brother Laura Ashley embroidery machine. I really like the 8900, with only one exception, and that's the thread nest on the back of fabric when starting a new seam after using the cutter. I mostly avoid that by chain piecing. I hate using leaders though ...

Go for it. I got mine in Nov as a retirement/Christmas present for ME. I love it.
Oh, how I wish there were a Janome dealer near where I live! I have New Home (Janome) Memory Craft 6000 that I've had for over 30 year...still sews fine, but I did get a Pfaff Expressions a few years ago because there was a dealer in the larger town close to me and I could count on servicing. Well, the dealer decided to close and take a job elsewhere...yeah, I know. If there were a Janome dealer close by, I would see about trading both machine for a newer Janome. (sigh)
