I have just put together the Stephen Lyman Last Light wallhanging and now I am stumped on how to quilt it! I did think initially of doing some 'thread paining' but I am very new on my long arm and think that this may not be a good idea.
If anyone has any ideas or any photos of one that they have quilted (tried an internet search and did not come up with anything) to show me I would be very grateful as I have no idea how to start! |
Perhaps if you post a picture of it here we could offer suggestions?

This is the wall hanging

It's very beautiful! Quilting? I suggest going minimal to avoid detracting from the "picture"

I agree with Kitsie.

I agree. As little quilting as possible. It's beautiful the way it is.
|
Maybe just some outlining of the mountains and shoreline. Just enough to highlight the major focal points in the panel and around the frame.

Thank you! that gives me a good idea of how to go about this one. I am thinking of using some different threads and maybe a very pretty delicate white shimmery thread on the snow? what do you think?
|
I love the idea of different threads; especially the glimmer for the snow. It will really enhance the "mood" of the quilt. It is such a peaceful picture and so lovely, can't wait to see it finished.

use a batting that allows up to 10" between stitching lines (like warm & natural)
then you can do minimal quilting- maybe highlighting wildlife, some water- some clouds... vines/leaves in the borders... just enough to highlight-without distracting.. and if you are (new) to thread painting, you should practice on something before trying it on a (real) quilt |
