I bought this beautiful layer cake a few weeks ago and can't decide what pattern to use. I was just wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions for a pattern to use. Thanks in advance for any input.

I have a book by Pam and Nicky Lintott called Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts . It has several patterns in it that use layer cakes and they don't look to complicated. I am a beginning quilter and they look like even I could make them.

You might want to check some of Eddie's posts. As far as I'm concerned he's the king of layer cake quilts.

There's a pattern called "Mom's Bouquet" in the current (May) issue of McCall's Quick Quilts that uses a layer cake (or 42 10" squares). Is that how many pieces are typically in a layer cake? I've never bought or used one, but I think this pattern looks appealing...and quick!

Which layer cake did you buy?
I recently bought the Nature's Notebook by Moda and am trying to find a design that will not be too busy and will show off the lovelly fabric. Let us know what you find. |
I have a layer cake from last Christmas called Winter (not Winter Song, but just plain Winter. It has poinsettas and half moons and several other designs in light blue, muted red, cream, etc.). All the patterns thus far that I've found for a layer cake also call for a jelly roll or honey bun of the same fabric line. I can't for the life of me find anymore of this fabric collection so I don't know what I'll do with this layer cake. I'll be checking this thread to see if a pattern pops up!

http://www.upandawayquilts.com/cgi-b...es=0&lastmenu= This might help. It's not a jelly roll, but a charm pack or another layer cake might help you. :) |
