Laying Out Blocks When You Have Two Projects and One Design Wall
 

I'm making two quilts, one for my sister, a lap quilt, and one for my GS, a twin. I have the design wall covered with the blocks for my sister's quilt. Now I'm ready to start laying out my GS's quilt and I'm not sure where to do it. Where do you lay out blocks when you have more than one project going?

Try the larger ironing board that I hope you have.I have used the bed but the fur babies Must sit on them first. Hugs and good luck.

I am able to fold my design wall and put it away. I use a flannel sheet/table cloth, whatever works for you. I use pant/shirt hangers with the clips on each end. Then I hang it on a double window (?). I can also hang it on my shower rod. You can (while hangers are still attached) lay it on a bed til you have to move it. On your design wall you could put a couple hooks far enough apart and hang it on top of the design you already have up. The smooth side of the table cloth won't knock the other design down.

Hang over a door or clip onto shelves.

I am working on putting up a design wall,right now I lay them out on my bed,I have an older row home were you walk through one bedroom to the next bedroom master turned into sewing room and my bed is now in the middle bedroom I lay out a trifold display board arrange my blocks on that and pin the corners then take the board to my machine prop the board as best I can on the wall, the board I got from joanns it's corrugated and folds 3 times and pins hold the blocks pretty well of course I don't do really big quilts yet.oh and the elmers glue company makes the boards I found mine in the kids crafts section.

I do one project start to finish, so I haven't run into this exact problem. Can you just drape/pin a sheet over the blocks on the design wall and put the new blocks on the sheet?

I am like dunster. I totally finish one quilt before I start another. I don't have wall space for a design space. I use my bed and don't allow cats in there. Maybe try laying it on the floor to see how you want to sew it.

I do only one top at a time, also. I find this gives me more incentive, to go ahead and "get 'er done!"

I always tear the covers off my bed and use it for setting my boclks up

I have one stationery design wall that is 8 feet x 8 feet, so usually large enough for many blocks - one and a partial project.

But I also keep a piece of flannel about 42" x 60" that I use on a leftover piece of house insulation foam core board which can be tucked under a bed or behind an armoire when not in use. I have also used a flannel-backed table cloth as a design wall.
