Layout help

Hi,
Recently started quilting. I've been given a quilt kit, it doesn't have a layout diagram for any of the pieces. Is there an app or short cut anyone can recommend or am.I better off drawing it all out on paper by hand first?

Cheers
Jenny

Can you try googling the name of the quilt to see ifyou can find help online, too? And if you could post the name of the pattern here, someone may be able to offer suggestions.
Welcome to "our" wonderful world!!

Welcome aboard! Are the pieces cut out already, or just lengths of fabric and cutting instructions? Do you have any sort of directions or a picture of the finished product?

If the pieces are cut, they will hopefully layout pretty easily -- but you can usually do various things with the same pieces.

Posting pictures here can be challenging, but a picture is worth a 1000 words for most folks, 10k for me because I'm wordy!

Welcome to the board. Was there a picture with the kit? If not, maybe you can find a website link to the company that put out the kit and find a picture of how to lay out the blocks. Sometimes, I go on Pinterest and type in the quilt name and you can find a picture of it there. Good luck to you

Hi
Thank you for the suggestions it's a Rachael of Greenfield wall hanging kit. She has no Instructions /pdf available sadly. There are instructions on how to piece the pieces. It includes fabrics in one piece with just a list of pieces that need cutting out with instructions to plan layout carefully!!

First of all let me say welcome to the QB from SE Michigan! If you could post any information on the quilt itself that would be great then we would be able to better help you out. I am working on a quilt right now that has many options for layouts and people have been great here helping me realize that I have more than a single option for the lay out. What a big help that has been. Folks are more than willing to help. This is a great group of people here with all kinds of expertise available. Quilters from brand new quilters to some that are profound in their abilities. The majority are somewhere in between. the important things is that everyone is willing to help. Join right in the fun! I look forward to seeing a great deal of you here. Again welcome to the QB!

So you have tried contacting them directly?

Ok, so when you are saying the layout, that is what I might call a cutting diagram?? When I hear layout I think of how pieces go into a block, or how the blocks go into a quilt.

I'm thinking maybe you are dealing with fat quarters and so the pieces you need have to be arrange to make the best use of the dimensions. So, your instructions say something like "Cut (4 squares) each 5.25" from fabric A" and a fat quarter is roughly 18" x 22 -- you want to cut the long side to get all 4 squares. If you cut along the shorter side you only get 3 and an odd leftover.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. I would draw it out from the picture. Remember that after drawing the pattern, you have to add the 1/4 inch seam allowances to all the pieces you cut from the fabric.

If you give us the name of the quilt kit or pattern, we might be able to look up pictures of the quilt and help you with the layout. Sometimes a blogger has blogged about it and will post pictures. I take it there's no picture of the finished quilt on the cover of the pattern, or if there is, it's hard to deduce the layout from that picture?
