I have my quilt loaded onto my knock off Flynn frame but not sure I did it right.

I had no clue how long to make the muslin leader cloth. And do you use a single layer or double it?

The length will depend on the size of the quilts you are going to quilt. I used a single layer of canvas, but it will probably depned on the quality and thickness of the canvas.

I use a double layer so make it last longer and for many quilts to come.

I've used cheaper muslin and did a 1" "hem" on the side that the quilt gets pinned to. It's lasted really well. Canvas was too hard to pin into, for me.

By length I mean the distance from the pipe to the edge where I attach my quilt. Is this what you mean too?

I took a one yard wide piece of mulin foled in half sewed a rod pocket along the fold to slide over the rods and sewed a seam on the other end so it will give me two layers to baste to Gives me about 16 inches to baste to

Great idea!! Thank you. That is what I'm going to do. Sounds much simpler then what I was trying to do.

Thanks again!

I thought you meant the length of the leaders(horizontal), the vertical size of the leaders people use can vary from about 7" to 24". The first leaders I made were about 12", the leaders I use now are about 20"(The poles were different sizes). Basically it needs to be able to wind around your pole several times before it attaches to the quilt. You can use muslin as suggested, but my second set is much nicer and thicker than muslin.

Yup. I had some natural muslin backing that I measured then "ripped" to cut the length...what a loooong, straight "cut"!!! Then I serged the edge, then sewed a guide line on each piece. I'd say make your leader the length of your rails minus a couple inches on either end. The "width" from the rail out....mine had instructions to do them 8", 12" and something else I can't remember...
