Leader Fabric???
What kind of fabric should I buy for making leaders for my home made quilting frame? I plan on buying Red Snappers to put in them, but not sure what the best type of fabric would be. This is a link to my frame.

Pillow ticking, cotton duck and a mid weight canvas all work nice for leaders.

Thank you. Cotton duck is on sale this week, too.

What are red snappers?? My mom needs new leaders for her hand quilting frame. I saw somewhere on the web where someone used sticky velcro to attach the leaders to the frame and that way you could pin the quilt to the leaders and then attach the leaders to the frame. Has anyone who does hand quilting done it like that, or am I dreaming? I'm the one who puts the quilt on her frame for her, and thought it would be easier.

Red snappers would be easier. If you are replacing her leaders anyway, you can add the pocket before putting them on the frame.

i tried making my own with light canvas material.
it worked good for a while and then started coming apart i ended up ordering mine from the gracie company and i havent had problems. they also have the inches on it. help me get the quilt on staight. |
I tried the Red Snappers but with my arthritis it wasn't as easy as pinning and using the QuiltTak [ www.quilttak.com ] for the bottom of the quilt top so I can get closer to the edge when quilting.

In my last catalog from Nancy's Notions there was yardage of canvas material with markings and everything to make your own leaders. All you have to buy is for one length of your frame and it has all three leaders in one piece you just cut apart. They where reasonably priced and I have sure with Black Friday and the holidays coming up some sort of sale will be going on to get this even cheaper.

I used pillow ticking and serged muslin to the other side, and put mine on with sticky velcro.
