Leader for Majestic frame
We have just assembled our new Majestic frame and the DVD and the instructions say that with the new fastening system you have an option of not using the leader fabric but attaching your top directly to the frame. I was just wandering what are the cons of not using the leader. So if you have tried it, please share your experience with me before I embark on making the leader. Thank you!!!

I just got the frame and leader cloth and got them put on. I haven't used the frame yet, but I will soon. I was going to last night but I did not make my sample piece large enough to meet the take up rail. I will let you know what I think of the leaders when I take it for a test run. I would be interested in what others have to say about this as well.

I am planning to practice on plain sheets first because I have never used a LA before. I think that with the leader cloth it is easier to quilt at the beginning and at the end of the quilt. I just do not know how that would work without the leader cloth. I guess I will just have to try and see.

tashana is right. you would not be able to quilt as far on the top or
bottom with out the leaders. i tried it and didnt like it. so order leaders and put on my machine. |
I need the space the leaders afford to avoid moving the quilt yet again...:)

Well, how would you put the quilt on the leaders without a canvas leader? You would have to waste backing material to put it on wouldn't you. My longarm has leaders and I pin my quilts on them. Someone clue me in. I JUST GOOGLED majestic frames. I DO believe I would like that deal where you put your backing into a crevice in the rail. I get really tired pinning.

The Fabrifast system is a dream...after you insert the leader into the crevice, you can move the leader back and forth. As to using the backing fabric directly on the rail, nothing wrong with using extra backing. You won't need much. If you wanted to check the tension first...just allow a bit extra, that's all. Or you can sew a strip of muslin to the backing and use that as the leader. Do your own thing, smile. You do need to use the leader for the bottom edge of the quilt backing, though.

I have leaders on my frame, but I have invested in Red Snappers. NO PINNING!I can load a quilt quickly with out sticking myself. Renae Hadaddin is the inventor.
http://quiltsonthecorner.com/gadgets click on Red Snapper and there is a video. I have no connection with this company. I just use their product and love it. |
