I don't throw away anything and I have a lot of leftover batting from my quilt projects. What can I do with them?

Hmmm... You can cut it up into squares and use it for the centers of rag quilt blocks. Or you can roll it up into a 'log' and make a neck pillow. Or how about pot holders (along with some reflective insulation stuff-thats the technical name :) Or make a few doll quilts ....

When I have ends and pieces from a large batting after making a quilt here is what I do.....I make coasters, potholders and tablerunners out of the larger pieces....when I cut the backing and batting off a quilt after attaching the binding, those stringy pieces (material included) get shoved into a bag and I stuff pillows with that. I have also made two dog beds out of those.....I

Those are great ideas.

At my quilt shop they save all those bit and give it to animal shelters to use as binding for wounds.

I've even slipstitched two pieces of left over batting together to make one piece for a small quilt! :D

You can also wrap hangers and cover them, to make nice Christmas gifts, and you can also make pillowforms with it! Sew two squares together on three sides, stuff it with polyfill or more pieces of batting, and then sew up the remaining side. WAY cheaper than paying for pillowforms.

You could use it to make animals with if you crochet or sew them.

hee hee, i just used some of mine up yesterday on a Christmas gift. it's a small quilted banner 5" by 16". worked perfectly! i was even able to use the backing fabric that was still rolled up with it!

I use it to make beards and hair on my santa mice ornaments. just cut it in the shapes i want and glue it by the edges for the beard and the flat side for the hair, then i use a darning needle to fluff the hair up a bit.

I use it in making purses, wall hangings, fabric books, ornaments, and anything I see needs 'stuffing'...

I have a book called Quilt Block Leftovers, and it could give you lots of ideas for your batting, and any extra blocks you have laying around! Look for it on Amazon or at Crafters Choice if you are interested.

Some things you can make with leftover batting are: mini quilts/postcard quilts, pot holders, table runners, toaster or mixer quilted cover, ornaments.

I take the straight pieces and zig zag them together until I have a piece big enough to do a project. I live out on the country and it is not always convenient to drive all the way to town.

I took small pieces of it and "shredded" or "spread it out" to make snow for the branches of the Christmas Tree I helped a friend put up. Looked really cool.

Don't forget you can stuff a pincushion with it.

The current issue of Quilting Arts magazine (Dec/Jan 2008 ) has an article on page 23 called "Taking The Inside Out - Painted Batting as a Quilting Surface". It says that cotton batting is a wonderful material to use on the outside of a quilt and it's got some beautiful examples (as well as directions) to prove it. Have fun!

I have 2 - 30 gallon fish tanks I use some of the scrapes in the filter. And in the summer I wrap a strip around the filter cartage to the swimming pool keeps them cleaner longer.

I read that if you save all your little strips,or thread any little thing that gets cut away,and save until you have enough that too makes good dog bed stuffing. I use oneof those egg create looking pads on my matress and when it is worn out I use it for dog beds. then when dirty just throw away. make new one. I have three dogs one medium size and two tiny ones. The medium size one has to wear dipper in the house can't turst her any more,so I am sure she gets her create pillow dirty too,so I make her beds that way so when she soils them I throw away.. The bigger batting pieces I make pot holders and also use it to stuff appique on quilts. just a little to puff it up on some of them. I made one little lap quilt with fussy cut fish and used the batting in behind the fish just small piece to give it just a little puff.

Depending on the size, I will sew them together until I have a piece that's big enough for a quilt. That's what I use for my quilts I give to homeless shelters. Most of the time those quilts will either get lost or trashed, so it's not like I'm out alot of money. I use Warm and Natural batting and the stuff is pricey at times. I usually buy by the bolt when Joanns has it on sale for 1/2 price and I get free shipping.
Smaller pieces are used as cat toys or for pot holders. I have even put some under the legs of my furniture. Makes it move around easier on this ceramic tile floor. :)
