I put them away for a future project.

What Dunster said. I use as many leftovers as I can on the back, the rest goes to my stash. Eventually I give many of them away if I don't make a scrappy quilt or two each year.

My sewing friends and I save all our scraps for crumb blocks which are put into quilts and donated. The scraps that are too small or anything trimmed off blocks so into dog beds that are donated to the local SPCA. We don't waste anything.

I make crumb fabric from scrap pieces. Orphan blocks can become a community service quilt or a whole new project will develop.

I am struggling to tame my scraps and I know I need to make something with strings and scraps soon. With orphan blocks I have heard that you can put them together in a quilt and then overdye with something like yellow to make them all go together.

Put them on the back of quilt, make a bag or pillow to put the quilt in, table runners, hot pad holders, kitchen glove. Mug rug, iPad or phone holder, shopping bag, purse, any small object which needs a cover. Dog and cat bed or nicuquilt, baby quilt. The amount you can use is endless.

As many QB members posted, put them in the back of a scrappy quilt. I recently used long pieces of left over borders in a backing to one of Judy's mystery train projects... you know the pieces that are cut from the edge after you take it off the longarm. It came out wonderfully.

I have started taking my left overs and cutting them into 1 1/2" strips. I'm planning on using them for a string quilt or log cabin. I really like the look of small strips on these quilts.

Some people cut their scraps in other uniform shapes. It's much easier to store this way.

If the pieces are 5 or 6 inches, I put them back with its larger piece. Any smaller, and they go into a box of all scraps.
