Legacy Premium Muslin from Jo-Ann
 

It feels very nice - and it is tightly woven - I consider it to be a high musliln.

My experience:

I bought two 15 yard, 90-inch wide bolts of it. I think it gets stretched when it is put on the bolts and relaxes later. Anyway, both bolts were short about three inches from the full 15 yards.

I soaked 90 inch lengths in hot water (after serging the ends) and then rinsed them in cold water, and dried "until done."

Results:

The selvages looked "crinkly" when taken out of the dryer - but seem to stretch to the length of the fabric.

The width went from 91.25 to 91.00 inches.

The length (measured about three inches from the edge) went from 90 inches to 85 inches.

That's very helpful information! I haven't used any of that yet, but I recently bought a yard each of the bleached and the natural Legacy muslin in the 108" width so that I could see how I liked it.

It did wash up nicely and I was impressed with how it feels - nice and smooth and substantial. I'm looking forward to using it in some quilts, whenever I need white or natural fabrics.

I buy this the same (90 inch x 15 yds) with a 40 or 50 % coupon. Good buy, good fabric. Not heavy like kona, but not see-thru thin. Nice balance

All that seems normal shrinkage rate to me...selvage will pucker... It's a tighter weave- or something-that's the reason we cut it off......a good muslin, when washed is soft and marshmallowy, in my opinion...love it!

I have used this and have found it to work very well.

It has always been my thought that muslin shrinks a lot. Therefore, I always buy more than I need and wash it before I use it. Ask me how I came to that realization...

I have learned that MANY woven cottons will shrink - eve LQS fabrics washed in tepid water!

Thanks for posting this! I'm always a little "stuck" when buying the muslin, and feel like it is always a gamble. Word of mouth is so valuable!

I'm wondering if this is the muslini that's perma-press as I bought a bolt of it to make my pillowcases to store quilts. Thought if I got perma-press it would eliminate most of the wrinkles when washed. I used the leftover fabrics from the quilts to make the cuff and give the quilt to whomever in the pillowcase with their name on it (if its a child/baby).

This fabric feels "wonderful" - soft, tightly woven, has a nice hand - but it rumples.
