So my nephew has requested a Lego design for his quilt. I haven't found any patterns or even any decent pictures of finished "lego" quilts to help me design the thing. I am a advanced beginner so it has to be relativly basic in construction, medium sized applique pieces are okay.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I should go about this project? Thanks. |
Is there any Lego fabric out there like there is for Tinkerbell & Lightning McQueen, etc?
|
What about blocks that look like legos? Rectangles with circles in them, or from the side, it could be a rectangle with squares sticking up for the bumps.
|
i have not seen lego fabric, but you could probably piece a lego building, truck, etc. it would be more primary than advanced. how old is your nephew?
|
He is five. Primary colors would be easy enough and cheaper than licensed fabric. I especially like the truck idea. Now to get it down as a design. Thanks fore the ideas.

Whoops, link was too long. There is a nice one on the first results page when I typed lego quilt into google images (a lot like what "uglycook" described when she suggested a rectangle with a small square on top) and there are a few more, good luck!

Once upon a time, there were Lego sheets made that looked like Lego bricks stacked together. There were also Lego Bionicle sheets made, too. I have seen Lego fabric but it is from Japan so it would be pricey if you can find it. You may find the sheets on eBay.
Otherwise, you could do rectangles with smaller rectangles on top like the studs on the Lego bricks. I am pretty sure this is the same thing everyone else is describing. Good luck! |
I can't wait to see what you decide. My son loved legos for years.

On Mother's Day this year my 25yr old son played a dvd he'd downloaded which showed a 2-storey house being built from lego bricks in a field somewhere in England - thousands of people put together the coloured rectangles and made a really special house, able to be lived in overnight - it brought back some lovely memories of our lego experiences during his and his older brother's childhood days. If people can make a real house from Lego, I'm sure you'll come up with an idea for a quilt - try using the instruction sheets which come with lego kits or the lego catalogues we bought years ago!! Ours are all packed away in crates - I can't bear to part with thousands of A$s birthday and christmas presents. Visit your local toy store too.

Did you ever find a Lego quilt pattern? I am looking for one too.
|
I haven't. I am going to make something up on my own with suggestions from here. If you find one, please let me know... I haven't started buying fabric for it yet.
|
I know there is one in an old magazine of mine. Now I just need to find it! I did find a picture of a lego quilt online. Each lego block only had one connector button (I don't know what else to call it!). I want to make mine with 2 connector buttons per block, if that makes sense. The picture I saw was made of just 4 solid colors: red, blue, yellow and green. I'll keep you posted.
|
I'll try to attach the picture I was talking able, but it is in this thread too.

I looked at webshot link shown in this thread and followed another link to lego somewhere and came up with the following picture: A great applique if ever I saw one
|
The picture right above this post - too cute.
I'm attaching a file I made for a jigsaw puzzle quilt. I know it's not the same as legos, but I thought it might be a helpful starting point... since they're both blocky and whatnot. Shrug |
Has anyone found lego fabric yet? I just called the Lego Co. & they don't know of any they have licensed to make. I know there would be a big demand for it. I'm trying to make my grandson a quilt also.
HELP!!! |
At one time, I found some Lego fabric that was the little men and trucks at Hancocks but it was a one hit kinda deal. Good luck.
|
Go to a toy department with your camera. Take some shots of the boxes of legos. Maybe that will inspire you for a design.
|
have number eleven great grand child on the way. Dad is a HUGE Lego fan and we want to make a blanket for the baby. Gender still unknown. It is really a family joke. smile..
|
legos, legos. i love them and hate them. still have scars on my delicate feet from stepping on them. but they are so much fun.
anxiously waiting to see what you come up with. you'd think someone would have addressed this a long time ago. maybe you can come up with something you can market. seems to be a need for it. |
Check for Lego coloring books !!

Here is a link to a tutorial for a really cute lego quilt-I really like this one! She even has a downloadable template for the lego logo to make a stamp.

that wee wonderful quilt is great. I wish my boys were young enough to enjoy one, I will have to save it for grandchildren.
|
Where did you get the pictures for appliques and how did you make them. My little friend is Lego crazy.
Thanks |
