Lemoyne Star and Sunflower

3 Attachment(s)
They have nothing to do with each other but thought I would show you the wall hanging that was included with the Lemoyne star ruler. I finished it up this afternoon and wouldn't have had a problem if my machine didn't have the hickups.

The second picture is something I found in my UFO when cleaning this spring. It is a sunflower that I saw on HGTV many years ago. I printed some of it out but only have page 4 and 5 of the directions. It was from HGTV article 3302-4225965.

I like the colors you chose for the star quilt. You did a great job. The sunflower one looks nice too. Here is a link to a video of a sunflower pattern that looks similar: http://www.hgtv.com/video/sunflower-...deo/index.html. Could it be the same?

Mickey1 07-28-2012 04:57 PM

pinkcastle,
That website was exactly the one that I used so long ago. I looked at it again and I remember how to do the first part. Do you know how I would be able to see the rest of the video to see how she finishes it up? I might like to try this again.

HillCountryGal 07-29-2012 11:35 AM

The talent here amazes me! Both are really nice.

SouthPStitches 07-29-2012 11:49 AM

Super job on both!

linmid 07-30-2012 05:32 AM

Love your star quilt colors (they are my colors). I have not seen a sun flower pattern like yours. It is interesting and unusual. Was it hard to make?

I love those colors/fabrics in your stars, too! That's a beautiful quilt! And being from KS, you KNOW I love the sunflower! What are you going to use it for? Please post again when you decide, OK?

I have the Lemoyne Star ruler, too, and I LOVE it! I've done some table runners and a wall hanging , though not the one that comes with the ruler. I have all of Deb Tucker's rulers, and I like them because I do so much better with her " trim down" method. It's so much more accurate for me to make a square and trim it down. I know some quilters would think that's wasteful, or too time intensive, but it works for me.

ellifour 07-30-2012 07:23 AM

you used my favorite fabrics, love the various sizes, and the layout. if this quilt needs a home, let me know

maryellen2u 07-30-2012 12:05 PM

Your "Sunflower" is a Jennie Rayment pattern. Love it. I did this as a poinsettia for a Christmas quilt. Jennie's e-mail is: [email protected] and her website is: www:jennierayment.com. If you are ever lucky enough be be anywhere close to where she is teaching or giving a trunk show - don't miss it. She is a fantastic and funny teacher/speaker.

You don't have much to do to finish your sunflower. You appear to have already tacked the petal close to the center. Next is to go up a little way and fold towards the center the outside part of the petal and tack it down. Then you need to applique the entire flower onto your background, add borders if you choose to, sandwich, quilt, and bind. That's it.

Latrinka 07-30-2012 12:45 PM

Wow, both very pretty!

ladyredhawk 07-30-2012 03:11 PM

I love the sun flower it is really pretty, the other one is really nice too

meanmom 07-30-2012 04:08 PM

The sunflower looks like something from Jennie Raymont. I took a class from her last year at a quilt show. Awesome class. Her class was fun and educational. I loved it. I think she is teaching again this year. She taught several classes. The one I really wanted was on a day i couldn't go. If you ever get an opportunity to take one of her classes do it.

Lovely quilt also sunflower. I did watch the link also thanks

trolleystation 07-31-2012 07:19 AM

OOOOOH What wonderful sunflower.

MarLeClair 07-31-2012 03:44 PM

Thanks ladies for all your kind words. While looking for a pattern I found the whole set of instructions that I printed out and put in a binder. You are correct it is Jennie Rayment's pattern from her book Creative Tucks and Textures for Quilters and Embroiderers. I think I might look at that book to buy.
Janquilts-I love your block and especially the colors.

berrypatch 08-01-2012 08:12 PM

I especially love that sunflower
