length of quilt frame

back this winter, i bought a used hinterberg frame for DSM's. the pipes that came with it were 100" long....and set it up in the ds's bedroom, after all, she's in college! well over spring break she got to climb under it to access her bed <g>. ok for a few days...but not long term.

Today, we have taken it down and the hubby has sawed 18" off the pipes...so 82" of pipe. and it's being set up in the living room (hope nobody minds...). we had a huge long discussion about what lenght, and finally agreed to this. realized that until i become proficient (and i am a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way from that)...the quilts would be small. When i'm ready, we'll just get longer pipes.

so, what lenghts of frame does every one else has?

Don't have anything for quilting - it doesn't matter how many times I measure the room it just isn't big enough!

I had a hinterberg kit that was to have 114 inch bars/pipes. He bought them but never put it together for me. I finally just took it to a Charity shop here. Hopefully someone will have better luck than I did. it would have done king size quilts.

My Gammill has a 12-foot frame and it's plenty long enough...

Mine is set up at 8' for the time being but I have an extension when we are ready to take it out to 12'. Maybe this summer. My husband wants to turn the living room into my sewing studio, and the front bedroom into a living area. I'm not sure I am ready to do that.

I started out with a 6 ft Hinterberg, then went to a 10 ft when I got the stretch extension. Have to stop there as I don't have any room left:)

My Gammill has a 10' frame. I debated for a while over this or the 12' frame, but felt my room just wasn't big enough. It would have fit, but I would have only been able to walk around one end. I have only missed out on 1 customer in 2 years who had a quilt that was too big for my frame. I referred her to a friend and she was happy with my friend so all is well.

Mine is 9ft. And fit across the Small wall in my dining room. I had it made that size specifically to fit there. Only problem I have difficulty getting behind it. I have altered mine slightly and put a shelf across the bottom which is great for all type of things. .
