Aren't you glad you sent it to Charismah? Someone else might have just loaded the imperfect fabric, quilted it and sent it back for you to discover. Sorry you had the problem and lesson learned. Thank you.

I take quilts from all people...beginners and non-beginners. I don't judge. I just quilt. |
Thanks, miholmes! Reminds me that on two occasions, I purchasee fabric; one in yardage and another a bundle of homespun fat quarters, and much later discovered fade lines on all the qrtrs and down the center of the yardage. Not a good thing for sure. However, I was able to work around the fading but it sure slowed me down!

HI M & Everyone else,
You know I always hate to send that message that something is wrong with plan A. Especially when people schedule a time slot with me and it has to be postponed to carry out plan B. In this case M bought his fabrics in a kit. I really feel like the LQS should have checked the fabrics before they assembled the kit. I will post pictures of the flaws..they are to huge not to notice. Honestly. But life happens and what do you do? |
Thanks for the info, I want to send her a quilt to be quilted in the near future. 1st I need to get the border on and piece the back!

I was at a LAQ store one day when a lady brought back a quilt that had just been quilted. The LAQ had put the backing on with the wrong side out. The lady was very upset and I would have been too, but in fairness to the LAQ there was not a big difference between the wrong and right side. Lesson-makde sure quilter knows which is the right side.

Tears!?! Oh, my. Thanks for the heads up. I have never seen tears.

I am learning a lot of new words in todays QB digest, at least they are not swear words.

At cheaper fabric stores, I'd guess that about 1 in 15 or 20 bolts of fabric have fabric with uneven dye spots, pulled threads, rips in the fabric, knots in individual warp threads (creating a flaw), etc. Oddly enough, depending on what it is I'm making, I sometimes hope there IS a flaw because they will usually offer a discount. I've never had a clerk act like I was being unreasonable when I ask to examine both sides of the fabric before cutting, especially if I'm buying a lot of yardage. Of course, I try to make sure that I go at times when the store is less crowded or I wait until the cutting table is not crowded to get my fabric cut, since I know I take a little more time than many people. And I always make a point out of thanking the clerk for their cooperation and help. |
Thanks for the heads up. I never thought to check for this.

Thanks all, for the great advice!
