I know how you feel, i had a quilt that I donated to a live auction and I told my husband not to tell me if it sold for less than $20 (what I spent) and if it didn't sell to GIVE it to someone so I never had to see it again! It ended up selling for $90!

It's really beautiful. Such a shame someone took advantage of your generosity. Raffling is definitively more profitable. I donated a quilt for a fundraising caelidh organised by my youngest and some of her classmates who are off to Africa to build a community school next year. They made a lot of money from the raffle and the quilt was most def not in the same class as this one.

I have to confess that I "stole" a quilt at our last guild auction. I hadn't planned on bidding on anything, but I had to bid on this. It was a lap-sized throw and made with batiks with the twister template. The auctioneer started the bidding at $150. No bids. So he lowered it to $125. Again, no bids. So he lowered it to $100. Well, I knew that it was worth the original starting bid of $150, so I bid the $100. And no one bid against me. I was shocked. I will confess that it looks better close up than it did on the display stand, but honestly, $100. I hope whoever made and donated this quilt knows that I wasn't looking for a bargain. It now lives on the back of my living room couch and is a great snuggle quilt.

Your quilt is beautiful.....

I struggle with this issue but my friend said "it's donated". Meaning I gave it away for a good cause. So I focus on that. But your right, non quilters have no idea how expensive it is to do what we love.

So sorry it didn't bring more - it's beautiful!!

Well my dear as you can read your not the only one who had something like this happen. Honestly, the nerve of some people especially if they know better!! Is it true your materials are tax write off because it's a charitable organization? That could alleviate your disappointment somewhat. Irregardless you made a beautiful quilt and did a good thing. Well done!
