Too many times on this board, where the subject line can be so long, people put the most vague things on it. It's nice to see one that is detailed enough so that people know before they click whether or not it's something they want to read. Most of your auto parts houses like O'Reilly/Auto Zone will carry white lithium grease. If it was my machine, I would open it up, take a little small paint brush and some solvent (auto parts house)or gas will work if you are careful and clean the gears real good, then put some white lithium grease on them and turn the hand wheel to make sure you get enough grease on each gear.
My mother-in-law used to run a Singer sewing center and that is what she did. It usually doesn't take more than 5 min. to do this and if the dealer is real good and not ripping people off, they will do this during a cleaning without charging extra. Cleaning can run anywhere from $75 to $150 on most of the older machines. If the machine is heavy, I would guess it probably has metal greases. |

Don't have time to read the 5 pages. As an owner of too many 'older' machines than I can count, I only use SEWING MACHINE LUBRICANT on the gears - nothing else. I would not use something else and jeapordize my machines over the long run. Wait a bit and find the correct lubricant.
SEWING MACHINE OIL is something totally different too and does not go on the gears. It should go in places where metal turns on metal. Best of luck... |
I HAVE A BROTHER 1500 AND USE ON MY SHORT ARM..JUST A STRAIGHT STITCH AND MANUAL SAYS EXACTLY WHERE TO PUT LITHIUM GREASE IN THE GEARS...OIL ONLY IN THE HOLES...BIG JOB LIFTING AND TAKING APART BUT SAVES ME $$ ...HAVE DONE IT TWICE..IF A MACHINE IS COMPUTERIZED I DO NOT TOUCH...MY JANOME'S...
