I have arranged, rearranged, made NY resolutions to de-stash the sewing room and so far I have only been able to consider getting rid of 1 fabric. Is there such a thing as Fabric Hoarders?
I know its time because it is hard to even get close to my sewing machines. But I keep thinking someday I will use this to make .............. |
Sounds like you are a normal quilter to me.
With the price of fabric going to 11 and 12 a yard I plan to hanging on to all my fabric. It can go in to scrape quilts if nothing else.

So what's the problem? Oh I know you, need a bigger room. Or you need to make more Quilts?
I love this I do the same thing. This is the 2nd. time I have changed rooms due to lack of space. But I know I will use it one day. I'm holding on to myne due to the price of things and I will let the girls take care of it after i'm gone.lol
What do you do when you have to pick up and move you quilting and your stash? I'm actually thinking of taking over the basement. The whole basement
Yup, sounds like a quilter to me....
Both !! LOL
Too funny I don't want to get rid of mine either. Love your avatar. We had two boat and sailed alot. We used to take our golden canoeing and she would be the only one in a life jacket.
The skiiers would circle us laughing. Good luck de-staching :-D |
Is that someday impeded by the fact that you cant get to your sewing machine??? Then that someday may never come. You may want to still collect fabric or you may want to release some of it. Either way if it hard to get to your sewing machine and you are making this part of your NY resolutions, then you know your answer.
I am glad you decided/ Suzanne, I am soexcited to see.

With the price going so high, we will be glad to have our stash. in the last year it has gone up 160 percent.
I can't offer anything yet as I'm new to the board. Guess as I go through my stash I'll set the things I know I won't use aside. I'm one of those quilters that believes the more the better because what would happen if I didn't have enough to finish the project.
Love your Avatar too. I have 2 others that go sailing with us. All in life jackets, sitting looking over the gunnel getting their pictures taken from other boaters. They are our crew.....
I am a new quilter 6 months and do not have a big stash I would be interested in ANY fabric someone would like to let go of. I have WAAAAY to much room around my sewing machine!
I have been working diligently, wrapping, marking, and even listed some books on Amazon, with good results. My DH has even been running to the post office to send my treasures off. So it's coming along a little at a time.
 Room in you sewing room, you are a new quilter. Rest assured that won't last long. I think the key is I think the key is keeping on top, because as soon as you let you guard down, I swear it multiplies. :)

Love your Avatar, They are so adorable. I have 3 dogs asnd 1 cat who thinks she's a dog. They all know the sewing room is off limits.
I would hang on to it, too. Might pay for your retirement someday or at least get close to putting gas in your tank.
I agree with VanutaJill- Last fall I was so overwhelmed with tons of fabric I really couldn't do anything.
I probably gifted 2 large garbage bags full and I felt fantastic knowing it would go to someone who could really enjoy it, as I knew I wouldn't use it. I don't buy as much as I used to but still have plenty! It really is very liberating to let go and now I have room to be creative! I also donated a bunch of books to the library- I rarely buy books anymore b/c of this board and all the websites ! :D |
definitely let go of anything that doesn't speak to you anymore...make room for more or just make room!!! :)
Youre just normal!!!!!!!!!
I just got a lot of box's I could lift and packed up my room and moved the room I wanted into the rest of the house moved the furniture and shelfs into the room first then the box's. then put the old office-sewing room together. Then focused on my new room. It was a big project Now I need a bigger room but my mom lives with us and she has the bigger room so untill then I will be happy to keep this room and her for now.
Happy packing take the basement. WOW what room you will have. |
There is 1900 sq ft down stairs that is not being utilized, includes a bedroom w/fire place and full bath and laundry room. This is actually as four bedroom home w/3 full baths, and I don't even have a guest room. Our bedroom, sewing room (2nd bedroom, and office (in third bedroom). So I will be busy cleaning out that basement and moving the sewing room down there, and making the sewing room into a guest bedroom. I refuse to give up my office....

LOL what ever normal is.
