After seeing some info on the AAQI website I tried this method and come up with this mini for AAQI.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-152001-1.htm This was my inspiration: http://blocksnswaps.blogspot.com/201...ket-block.html Before that I have done several crumb and strip type quilts to get rid of fabric. The saying goes "if the fabric is still ugly, cut it smaller" Because one doesn't worry about "perfect" seams and alignment, one is "liberated" from the constrictions of precise piecing. I think there is a place for both types of piecing in the quilt world. |

I wanted to make a disappearing ninepatch block, fussy cutting the 4 corner blocks. They so were far out of true I dispaired(SP?) of using it at all, but I hung it on my display board for a week or so, and decided it really was kind of cute, so I am working around it. (Besides, it was a fabric I really like for this particular quilt, and had no more of it LOL). So I was creative! I'll post pics when I'm done if I realy end up using it...

See if your local library has any of Gwen Marston's books about liberated quilting. The books are great!

Modern quilts is what I call it. The Gees Bend gals have been liberated for a long time. Liberated is just a new word for scrappy. But I do like the style.

Not sure whether my Wonky Stars are what you mean by Liberated. I had to try real hard to get this effect

Do a search on yahoo or google. I've been reading lots of blogs today about liberated quilting and I think I have found my calling!!! LOL It's not just scrappy quilting, it's more like "Freestyle" quilting. I'm really enjoying what I have been finding!!
