Light Suggestions for Christmas
 

I have asked my hubby to buy me a desk lamp to help me see when I am sewing or doing crafts, etc. The lighting in our condo is just awful. Now we are on a very tight budget. He is now retired after having lost his job. And I am now working only as an auxiliary on call as I was laid off of my job a while back. Some of the lights that I have found are super expensive $100 and up. Can you recommend anything under $100? Actually more like $50? We live in British Columbia, Canada in case that makes a difference.

Do you have an Ikea in your area? They have some great reasonably priced floor lamps. I love floor lamps because because they don't take up table space and I can get the light over my shoulder and on my work instead of in front of me and in my eyes.

Ikea has some awesome LED desk lamps that are only ten dollars. Super bright and I love the flexible neck.

I bought a small Ott light that I can clip on to my machine. I clamp it on the handle, and can manipulate the "gooseneck" to where I want it. It provides all the light I need. It was about $20.00, on sale, with coupon.

I second and third the IKEA lamps. I own several desktop models and a clip-on model. They're both $10. I've been eyeballing the floor model, I believe it's $30. EDIT - NO, I just checked and they've dropped in price to $20!!! Even better!!! Woot woot!!

The thing to know about these IKEA Jansjo lights is that they're kind of like spotlights. If you want the light to be broadcast over a large area, these are not the lamps for you (at least, the smaller ones aren't. I can't speak for the floor model because I don't have one - yet! :thumbup:) These lamps have a bright, focused beam that is great for handwork.

If you see a light that you like the configuration, height or shape of, you can always buy an Ott light bulb for it - just be sure the check the shape/configuration of Ott light bulbs before you buy a lamp you want to change the bulb over in - some of the new lamps take bulbs that have unusual ends.
Also, some of the new LED bulbs in "daylight" (vs soft daylight) are really nice and bright to work by.
And a Michael's coupon can get you an Ott bulb at a discounted price too.
(And I'm from Canada too!)

I just had to reply to you personally, not only just for the suggestion but for your comment about " A husband is the perfect confidant to tell your secrets to - he can't reveal them to anyone else because he wasn't really listening when you told him!" Love this, so absolutely true about my husband!
