I love using an Ott light, but my bulb just went out and the replacements are expensive. I've also used one of those attaching lights on a friend's machine, but the $40+ for each of those is prohibitive for me. Right now, I use a little bendy daylight light from IKEA that cost $10, and is just as bright as both those others and I can bend to focus it where I need it when sewing. Plus, it's RED. :)

There are all kinds of sizes of Ott lamps. They are very nice. JoAnn's has them, I know.

Remember that you can buy Ott light bulbs inexpensively and use any old lamp that works for you. :)

Agreed!...... or buy "sun or natural lighting" bulbs at your favorite hardware store and replace all the lamps (ceiling/floor/tabletop) in your sewing room/space....makes a hugh difference!

The ecolux lights are fabulous....I kept hitting the bendable light! They are a little spendy but work great!

I highly recommend the LED strip for the underside of the arm on your machine. http://www.ecoluxlighting.com/
I have no affiliation - just a very pleased customer. I bought them for my Elna and FW. What a difference they make!

Hi Everyone! I'm grateful for you sharing your good tips and discoveries. I've been learning a lot. I recently bought a new sewing machine and table for it and now need to do something about the lighting. Would you mind sharing what kind of lights you chose and where you've positioned them? I'm assuming directly overhead would leave your work in the shadows? These eyes need all the help they can get! Many thanks! ~ Patty

I work at a Janome dealer and the ecoluxlighting is great!! It comes in 2 different sizes...a small one with 3 lights and a larger one with 6. Depending on which machine you have as to which on will fit. It does fit right on your machine so it shines so that you can see what you are sewing. You can also buy extra light sections so that if you have more than one machine, you can move it from machine to machine just by plugging in the transformer.

I have the bendable bright light on my Janome 6600. It helps but I think I need a
strip light like this. http://www.ecoluxlighting.com/. It was recommended by some
QB members a while ago.
