like your ruler foot?
I am considering purchasing a ruler foot....I was thinking it would even be nice to use for stitch in the ditch....has anyone used it for that? How about other types of quilting....I have a long arm...but am getting old...and was thinking maybe for small projects it would be nice to just sit and stitch in my comfy sewing chair.

I bought a foot that is used with quilting rulers. But for most of my small projects I use the regular foot or walking foot and align a regular cutting ruler along side of it for straight lines. You don't need a ruler foot for straight line quilting.

I have a Sew Steady ruler foot and if I am using a ruler I use my foot. I also have discovered that I like to use my ruler foot when I FMQ it just seems to work better for me and I don't have to change back and forth if FMQ or ruler work. I have 3 Pfaff machines and have done ruler and FMQ on all of them.

I use mostly the straight ruler. And I like the ones that aren’t too long because they slip when I use them.

I have both the ruler foot and many rulers to use but am chicken to try yet. I am reading everything that comes along here to give me courage to try.

Using a ruler takes a lot of practice. There are a lot of tutorials on you tube to help guide you. Good luck and have fun.

I also was wondering about the free motion part....I have a Bernina with the BSR stitch regulator foot....but I don't think the ruler foot can be used with the BSR....would be way cool if it could be....

I love my ruler foot and rulers. I do all my FMQ on my Bernina 440 and wanted to able to use a ruler to do sashing and outline stitch straight blocks and then go back to FMQ designs. I don’t know what machine you have but I also find my ruler foot easier to FMQ with. No need to change tension from regular sewing and the ability to dial the foot down until just above the sandwich gives my great thread tension stitching.

I have a Bernina 770, I bought a generic ruler foot on Amazon and it works great! I have done some FMQ with it, but I prefer to use my #24, free motion open toe for that.
Don't be afraid of FMQ or ruler work, there's tons of YouTube videos out there, just practice and you will get it! It's actually easier than you think. Check out Cindy Needham site, she was giving free lessons when COVID was at it's worst. Cindy does amazing work and she is very generous with her knowledge. |
I love my ruler foot and rulers! Started with my little Bernina, but liked it so much, I got some for my longarm. Now I've got a big Bernina 590, and am still loving my rulers. The Westalee 6-piece ruler set is a really good price and has some very use-able rulers. That's where I started.
