I'm planning on doing Judy Martin's "Shakespeare in the Park" and she calls for 8+ yards for "lining." Does she mean the backing? (8 3/4 yards for a quilt measuring 76.5 x 93.5" finished sounds like a lot!)

In this case I do not think so. Here is a blog about making it.

i don't know about her but i refer to lining and backing as the same

i agree, that does sound like an awful lot for a twin size quilt, is part of it for borders maybe? i always make my top then figure the backing fabric myself

I use cotton lining for summer quilts as you don't need the heavy batting. It is actually more like a blanket

That's gorgeous!! I have a question:
Is this pattern in one of her books??
I have most of hers. Love Judy Martin!

The pattern is in her "Creative Pattern Book." It's a beauty, if you look at the photos on her website there are lots of lovely examples. http://www.judymartin.com/Viewer-Photos.cfm
The yardage requirements are split by two colors, edge triangles, binding, lining and batting so I'm guessing she means backing when she says lining; I hadn't bumped into the term before and wondered what else could eat so much yardage.

Just send a quick email asking her.

"This is a 2 fabric quilt - very unusual for me. The dark is a commercially prepared hand dyed print by: Ricky Timms. (It was available in quilt shops several years ago.) The light is a not white - but it is lighter than I wanted. So i am very happy with the use of the thread. (The backing fabric, that does not show the quilting very well, was in my stash since almost the beginning of my quilting! So nice to have used that one!)"
This is a quote from her blog. From this she has 3 fabrics.... Is that the count you get with what is being termed as lining? A dark, a light, and backing ?

NotIce my avatar. Isnt this a coincidence (?) that the fabrics are exactly the same? I have shown this quilt at several quilt shows. ricky Tims and Judy Martin have posted it. Hmmmmmmm
