This will really impact the sewers i in this town. No other place to buy the sewing basics much less fabric. No more yarn or any type of needlework craft supplies. Everything on the bolt was 50% off and it was going fast. Some don't like WalMart fabric but it's the basic items that will be hard to pay double anywhere else. I bought a bolt of Warm and Natural batting, pre quilted muslin, premium muslin, Insulbrite, WonderUnder and other Pellon fusibles. It's disheartening not to be able to browse and see what's new in the fabric dept.

I am lucky as lots of Walmarts and fabric shops here in Phx AZ.
But I shop mostly on line now. So many good buys on line and it is exciting to watch the mail for my pakages.
I buy alot a Walmart, it is so cheap and for backing fabric it is a life saver.
Dont know how long they will have fabric and the clerks dont know either.
Local shops are just too expensive for me and we have one of the biggest ones around but 9 to 11 dollars a yard is beyond my means.

Our Walmart closed the fabric department several months ago, and all they have now is one aisle dedicated to sewing supplies. They have the basic pins, needles, scissors, a limited assortment of batting, a few acrylic rulers, and a few thread spools.

The Joann's across the street has benefitted greatly from this as the line to get fabric cut is now always 10-people long, and the cash register line goes half-way back into the store. They still only have 3 people working in the entire store on any given day or evening. So now, I don't go to Joann's either.

I do all my fabric and thread shopping online now. With a little advance planning, this has worked well for me. (there are NO local quilt shops within 40 miles of me).

I watch all the online fabric shops for clearance prices and free shipping. It was a bright spot going to the fabric dept at Walmart when in there and I will miss that.

I am doing the April shop hop and in looking at all their fabric especially the clearance pages,there are awesome deals out there

i do 85% of my shopping online, then 10% at the quilt shows, and 5% at the local fabric shops.

in NY its just to expensive to buy fabric. hoffman batiks costs $11-12 a yard at the local shops and i can buy it for $6-7 online when its not on sale.

every year when i go to the lancaster PA show i stop by the country store because batiks are on sale for $4-$5 a yard and i try to stock up for the entire year.

It;s so sad to see them giving up their fabric departments. I buy some at my local Walmart. They have some cute fabrics. I spend alot at my local fabric store and some at the LQS. I really love shopping on line. I can find unusual fabrics there.

Sorry to hear that . I have three WalMarts, One never had fabric :cry: , one has an ok area :? and the third gets all the new stuff :lol: So even tho the third one is the farthest I try to get there once a month just to check in :wink: And Walmart never responds to my emails about closing the fabric departments :evil: LOL

We just got a new Super Wal Mart, but they have less material now than they did at the old place. There's a fabric shop here, but to high priced for me.
Where does everyone find your material on line at?

I shop connectingthreads.com for the weekly web sales and their thread, Keepsakequilting.com for scrap bags, marshallsdrygoods.com for bargains, quiltinaday.com, baysidequilting.com, and any other online shop that has a clearance section.

Utilize the internet; don't do without! It is fun getting "Presents" in the mail. By the time you count your gas and time, you aren't paying anymore. Just a thought. GiGi

I have no fabric stores here the one and only quilt store closed last month, my fabric shopping is all online and have not been dissapointed I do try to stay with the name brand fabrics.
