Why are some messages Locked?

sometimes there is a heated debate, and mods lock it. Sometimes on a request for something, they receive all they need. Sometimes its just an old subject. I'm sure there are other reasons too :)

Sometimes it is better for a topic to just fall quietly away. Many times a topic is locked because it gets a little too heated.

AND SOMETIMES THE TOPIC IS NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION

If your topic gets locked you can always ask why.
