log cabin block using three colors?
 

Has anyone made a log cabin block with using just three colors, a dark, a light and then a color for the center.. Do you think it would look ok?

Of course! Better yet, make it of two colors -- maybe blue and purple with a red center, for instance.....but use multiple different blues and purples to give the many blocks lots of texture and interest.

Log cabins lend themselves to many options, just google log cabin quilts and you will find tons of inspiration. It's one of my favorite patterns.

I think you could. I absolutely love Log Cabins and the ones pictured are gorgeous!!

I've seen them all in one color that was stitched in the ditch and it was lovely.

All of the above Log Cabin quilts are gorgeous. I haven't made any in a while, I need to put it on a list. No,no, that wouldn't work, I would just lose the list.

I think three colors would look great. But I would use varying shades of each color except the center.

This one is in 3 colors.

I made a black and white with a yellow center it was in a magazine maybe a couple of years ago. It was supposed to be a modern take on the log cabin.

I saw one with red center, with various shades of black and white. Really striking quilt.

You can make it with just three fabrics (not several shades of 2 colors). But, first make one block to see if you like it. I made a small one just using 2 colors (it was a very specific request). I made it in the 'curvy' styles and it was very striking. But, it was very different and you loose some of the log cabin look of it.

Once again the talent on this board amazes me! All of the quilts shown here are gorgeous.

I just finished my first modern LC in two colors. Just loved all the modern patterns in the book 'Cabin fever' by Natalia Bonner and Kathleen Whiting.

I just realized -- I made a log cabin in two colors -- but several different shades of red and lots of white tone-on-tone!

This is my next quilt. White & Black prints for the light side, Black & White prints for the dark side. Solid red centers. I guess "great minds" think alike! LOL
