Ladies,
I am at the point where I can attach my borders. I have 3 of them. When I connect the pieces to either make the border long enough or wide enough do I just sew a 1/4" straight seam?

Some where in my memory I recall creating a diagonal seam. I don't remember if that is on the borders or if it is the binding.

Please let me know what to do with both the borders and binding!

A lot of this is personal preference. When I add borders, I use a strait seam, just because I like the look, and don't want to deal with possible stretching if the borders on my long arm. You can make a diagonal seam to splice the border fabrics if that's the look you want. But for binding, I always use a diagonal seam to attach sections to eliminate some of the bulk in the fabric joins. Just my opinion.

I don't like to piece my borders but I do use the diagional seam technique when piecing my binding.

Yes, you can use a regular 1/4" seam to piece borders. Yes, you can piece them straight across. I even press the seams open to avoid bulky seams in the border.

For some reason I prefer the straight seaming on borders but always use the diagonal on binding (to limit bulk).

I piece mine on the diagonal, just as if I were making binding strips. I have done them straight when I didn't have enough fabric, but I prefer the diagonal seam.
