I am looking for a book with log cabin pattern in it that when it is pieced it looks like a circle. If anyone can even just tell me the name of the book or pattern I would really appreciate that info.

Amazon has Log cabin with a Twist
http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0891...qid=1309668863
this might be what you're looking for. Check the "show me a random page" section and scroll thru them.

The price is better at AQS if you are a member. Seems like I've seen it somewhere else, too........Connecting Threads maybe??

Try googling images for circular log cabin quilts, there's quite a few pictures, but I couldn't get the link to work properly. You may need to use the half log cabin block to get the colouring in the right spots.

The way to get the circle shapes is to use the Uneven Log Cabin block.
As an example, in the picture below the wider strips are 1.5" and the narrower strips are 1". This particular block finishes at 12".

As you see, when you lay them out the unevenness (is that a word?) creates a gently curved effect. You can alter that curve by altering the widths of the strips.

Benartex makes a pre-printed muslin foundation for this block.

This foundation stays in so there is no dreaded paper removal process.

You might be thinking of the picture on the cover of the experts guide to foundation piecing. It is made with a half log cabin and half pineapple block.

Somewhere there's a pattern for a log cabin that starts with a diamond instead of a square. I remember a Christmas tree skirt made that way. Maybe someone has a better memory than I do and can find it.

That actually looks like a 6 sided pineapple block that has an elongated hexagon (dark blue) in the center.
