I am a newbe to quilting and I love the log cabin is it suitable for a starter?
|
yes it is, it is one of the easier patterns to make. My advice to you is to take it easy and have fun.
|
It most certainly is - My sister made one and it was her second quilt
Go for it  |
Yes a few pointers to help you !
1. A 1/4 inch foot is your best tool 2. Starch and press your fabric prior to cutting. This will give you the most acurate cutting with all the seams , this along with the 1/4 inch foot will give you the best outcome in the block. 3. Keep your strips organized , it will pay off in efficient sewing time. 4. Strips can be as wide as 2.5 -3 inch or as narrow as 1.5 -1.25, but decide ahead of time which width measurement is the look you want. For scrappy smaller is more eye appealing as the colors will blend/merge . 5. If you like the scrappy look but do not want quite so much sewing time make the center block bigger then go with smaller around the bigger center. ( I have used this for many scrappy when I was not sure if I had enough , but used the light color for the center). I have done 3 inch centers and had a good results. |
You can do it. Just take your time and dont get ahead of yourself. You will do fine.

I would definitely make sure I could get an accurate quarter inch before starting a quilt with so many seams. I made a log cabin early on in my quilting life, but I was sewing by hand-- very different.
Please have fun and let us see your first quilt! |

I am just finishing up my first today. . and it was super fun and simple. :D
good luck and remember to have fun. |
log cabins are a good start because it is all straight line sewing. for good results, though, do a practice piece that will check to make sure your 1/4" seams are accurate.
