log cabin

how would you quilt this
If your batting doesn't require close quilting, why not design a scene? Have a log cabin for the dark side of the block and a wandering path with a tree for the light side of the block. It would be a nice relief from Stitch in the Ditch and meandering which is usually done on log cabin.
I am going to use wool batting for the first time. thank you for your suggestion
something that will highlight the diagional contrast. maybe a feather down the length of each diagional?
This is a beautiful quilt. Log cabin is one of my favorites.
often log-cabins are quilted with wide- meandering, swoops, a flowing all over design- you could do feathers down the lightside, there are tons of (options) it often helps to look through books, magazines, web galleries at other quilts for inspiration...and it depends on if you want (traditional- what is often done) or something unique. it is beautiful!
Such a pretty quilt....with the design flowing in one direction, I would find a quilting pattern that flows as well....feathers are very pretty, but overdone (JMHO).....maybe a design like a panto would work
Maybe some beautiful flowing feathers following the white paths. One type of feather in one path and another style of feather in the next white path. Alternate the to different feathers, or however many different feathers you'd like. I just love your top :) beautiful job.
I've considered alternating a cable border design diagonally across each length of light and dark.
Since it's set in the furrow pattern, I think I'd do a vine with leaves down the strips. (plants growing in the furrows?) Maybe the curving lines of ferns down the strips instead of feathers. Long rows of flowing feathers would be pretty also.
I think whatever design you choose is going to just enhance an already beautiful quilt. Great job!
I would send it to someone else LOL, not much help is it. I love the quilt but do not have the experience to help you.
Love log cabins, yours is beautiful, maybe a baptist fan the contrast makes for a nice compliment to your top

my favorite quilt... I love it. It is beautiful, and whatever you do, it will only enhance it.

I like the idea of the cabin and path with trees. Oh it sounds like a lot of work.
I have no experience with a log cabin so can't advise on how to quilt it. However, it is one very beautiful quilt. The colors are perfect. Added to my favorites to check when I decide to attempt a log cabin. Show completed quilt, please.
I agree with suebee, that sounds like a great idea, it is a beautiful top.
Not knowing how you're going to quilt this...LA, machine, by hand...I would suggest a stencil design. I use them for both my hand quilting and LA quilting so... I have a stencil of long flowing cattails that would look great in the white areas. Then I would probably STID along the outside edges of the blue areas and maybe add another stencil detail here and there throughout the blue areas. Maybe a small animal or something. JMHO but I too think feathers are overdone.
If you know how to do feathers, do them in the white are. I can't do feathers yet. I quilted a log with little hearts all over, very easy to free motion.

No suggestions - but very pretty quilt
WOW!! You've a beautiful quilt! I like the idea of the fern and vines....thats my fave anyway.
I love your quilt. I think a overall design, such as the log cabin scene & tree that Tanya suggested would be awesome. Good luck & be sure to post a picture of completed quilt.
Beautiful quilt. I would use simple vines and leaves along the diagnonal lines. I agree that feathers are sometimes overused and I prefer simpler lines.
That is a very striking log cabin? I love the bright colors. I like Tanya's suggestion of a log cabin scene and winding path. I love this board. Everyone is so creative and helpfiul. I am learning so much.
I don't know how I'd quilt it, but it sure is beautiful!
