Log Cabin

Hi EverybodyI a new to this site. I would like suggestions of what design to machine quilt a log cabin pattern. I am stuck! It is all assembled, sandwiched and laying quite nicely on the floor. I just can't think what to do next with it. Suggestions? SOFIA

Welcome from Texas. I, too, would like to see the responses as that is on my bucket list to make

Welcome from Michigan! It depends a bit on the layout of your log cabin. This board has a picture gallery of quilts. You can see the quilting in many of them. Click on the picture for a large view.

I think feathers go really well with log cabins.

Welcome from SC Texas. I have been wanting to do one and when I do I am going to do stitch in the ditch. One of the prettiest ones I have seen was done that way and it made log's stand out so pretty.

How wide will the logs be? And will you stitch every seam?

A lot depends on the size of your quilt, and if you are going to quilt it on a longarm or a sewing machine and also your skill level. Keep trying to post a picture if you can !!

Well Ladies thanks for replies. Here's a picture of the quilt I made for my granddaughter, Madison for her dorm next year. I can stipple well but don't think it should have that design. Stitching around each log is way too much. I am really stuck.

Are you quilting on a regular sewing machine? If so I might go for a vine with leaves down the rows of dark/light sections of the logs. There are a lot of seams so I think I would look for a design to go on the diagonal rather than on the seams.

Traditionally (mid 1800s) the log cabin was often quilted with the Baptist Fan design.
As an option, there are images of it here: https://www.google.com/search?q=bapt...w=1230&bih=526
