Lone star easy easy pattern
I'm looking for a very easy 8pointed lone star pattern or tutorial. I have been looking and the easiest I have found is by Kaye .... But it has 8 points. Is it possible to do her method making 8 points or is there an easier way.
|
If you do a google search for 8 pointed star quilt pattern you will come up with several sites to check out for patterns.
|
You can also go to YouTube!
|
Check out Calico Carriage - they have some wonderful patterns including a lone star. Hers are all done with half square triangles so you don't have any set in seams.
|
I have never made a lone star block but here is an interesting web site you might want to look at: http://sandandsunshine.blogspot.ca/2...tar-trick.html
|
I have done the google and videos and not found one suitable .
|
I'm confused. You want an easy 8-point lone star, and Kaye has one, but it has 8 points, and you want to do it with 8 points? What is the problem?
|
Have you looked at EB Quilt in a Day?? I have yet to find all my quilting books since my move 3 months ago. I made my first Lone Star using her book. There is also a company that prints a lone star on the lightweight interfacing that I have heard makes piecing easier but I never tried it. You have to be able to sew a constant 1/4" seam so when you do the diagonal cuts, the points will match. Good Luck !!

Try Fairfield Batting web site. They have a free star with 8 points. Not to hard & no y seams
|
This book gets good reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Elegant-L.../dp/1571202889 Looks like you choose a good fabric and then basically make the 8 stars. I would be sure to heavily starch the fabric to stabilize the fabric for the bias seams! |
I am confused by the term " Lone Star". I have always thought the lone star was made with diamonds. What really is the pattern you are looking for.

Kaye Wood also has an 8-point lone star, Shimmering Star Lonestar - with a free pattern. http://www.kayewood.com/blog/freebies/free-patterns/

http://www.mccallsquilting.com/mccal...ne_Star_Salute has a pattern that I made with various materials. This might help ....there is another one that is easier. This is the back of the star to show you how it went togther.

Quiltsmart has the gridded fusible that is nearly impossible to mess up points. I used it for Mariner's Compass and would do a lonestar in a heartbeat.
|
This one has patterns for various point lone star quilts. I have the book and it looks relatively easy. It doesn't use the "dreaded" Y seam.

You used to be able to buy kits for Lone Star Quilts. I got one at the guild garage sale, all ready to sew together, and all of the pieces were there. I was lucky! It made a beautiful quilt. Our youngest daughter wanted it so bad I gave it to her, then enlarged it with borders for her king size bed. Don't remember who made this kit, but maybe even Martha's Patterns, or whatever that Wal-Mart carries. Or even try Herschler's; they have about everything. Good luck! Mariah

Good luck Dotty Wish I could help you.

I made my stars with the strip method.. they were easy.I have used different width strips for different size stars and cut and assembled pieces like the person on sand and sunshine blog. I don't remember where I got the information many years ago but they are quite easy.. maybe EB. I watched the sewing programs on PBS and recorded them:) Also you can use less or more strips. I have some with 5 strips, some with more, 7, 9, etc.
You can use a different angle to cut the strips and make 6 point stars. I have a 40 degree and 60 degree small diamond templates. but I use the degrees marks on my rulers to cut the diamonds usually. |
Eleanor Burns has a very easy lone star book.
I just cut one out today Mary |
Have you tried Quilter's Cache?
|
I did one early in my quilting 'career' before I knew it was supposed to be difficult! Got a book from the library. Did a strip-piecing method and had no issues really. The strips do have a tendency to get a bit wonky when cutting the 60 deg. diamonds but a few straightening cuts along the way and it's easy-peasy. Wish I could remember the name of the book for you. It was excellent.

I love these quilts. I am not talented enough to do one so....I went to Rapid City to visit my oldest son and bought one at a Pawn Shop. It was made by a woman from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and I love it.
|
That same technique will work for a 6 or 8 point star. It is the angle cut that makes a difference. One is a 45 angle and the other is a 60. Just don't remember which is which.
