I would like to try and make a lap size lone star quilt for my BF's daughter. Can anyone recommend a good book with easy to follow instructions. I appreciate any help I can get...thanks:-)

The easiest, most pain-free way to do a lap size Lone Star is with the Quiltsmart interfacing.

No diamonds. No angles. No bias edges.
This star finishes at around 36" plus whatever borders you want.

They also have a 58" star if you want it larger. Same concept.

I love this method! And it's worth the money.

If you do want to buy a book and/or make using a more traditional method, Jan Krentz's Lone Star and Beyond had fabulous detailed instructions and photo to help you avoid any pitfalls.

My first one was via Jan's method, and the rest have been with the interfacing. But I prefer Jan's method of finishing the star square.

And the book can sometimes be found on the racks at Joann's, so with a coupon......

I would suggest Eleanor Burn's Lone Star book. It is very well done with lot's of instructions and diagrams. I should be available at your local JoAnns Fabrics and Crafts store or you could probably buy a used copy on ebay or amazon.
Good luck with your quilt. It is my DH's favorite that I have ever made!

I went to my local library when I did mine. Not looking for it specifically but the center section was strip pieced. It did still have Y seams but it was okay. Wish I could remember the name of it for you as it was very easy to follow. Mine was a wall hanging size that I did in Christmas fabrics and use as a table topper for my coffee table during the holidays. I'll try to do some searching for the title and let you know if I'm able to find it.

Blanche Young did a book on this years and years ago. It was strip pieced and wonderfully easy. I think a friend has the book. PM me if you want instructions.
