Just took my first quilt to long arm quilter. The size is 45" square. I am having a very simple design done with one color of thread. Her original quote was $53 but gave me a 10% disc so will be paying about $47. Is this a good price, average or high. I have heard some long arm quilters charge by the square inch. What is a good price?

I think that's reasonable. She still has to load it etc, even if it's small. Think of the total time she'll work on it and what that comes to per hour. Less than I earn...

I just paid $57.00 for a 66 x 52 quilt top. Edge to edge design with varigated thread. She did a beautiful job!

Hard to answer b/c there are other factors.

I've sent out 3 so far. One person did the binding
and supplied the batting so that cut down on my shipping
to her. Another person quilted, no binding, no batting.
Things like that.

Shipping increases the cost but that's what I do.

Yes, many quilters do charge by the square inch, and the rate is based primarily on the type of quilting being done (overall meander, pantograph, edge-to-edge, custom, etc.). Some quilters also have a minimum charge, which may have been a factor in this price.

I think the bottom line, though, is whether you are pleased with the work when you get your quilt top back. If not, then no price is reasonable. If you are - which is the most likely scenario - then it's worth every penny!

A bunch of Long Arm Quilters charge by the sq inch. It is cheaper for me to send my quilts off to be done, then to have them done locally. Last quilt I had done was $80 for the quilting/binding included, also add shipping to be sent bck to you(about$13). That quilt size was about 72"x74". I also paid to have it sent to her about 15 or 16 dollars. So in that bx was quilt top/batting/backing/what I wanted done and check for services.

Some LA quilters have a minimum charge because as stated in another post, you still have to do all the preliminary work before you can begin the actual quilting.

I charge by the square yard. I charge $16 per square yard for simple all over design plus thread. Total for quilting a 45 x 45 quilt if batting is furnished would be about $28 without binding. Most places charge a minimum. My minimum charge is $25.

Prices vary depending on the type of quilting and the time that you need it by (willing to wait for it to be done). I just took a top (92 x 115) in to the LArmer. She is charging me .03 cents per square inch - total cost is going to be $317. This does not include batting or binding but does include an embroidered label. I'm not sure if this is a fair price - she is good at what she does. I know that I will be trying another LA that isn't as expensive so that I can afford to get more tops done. I have tried machine quilting but my results are poor and it would be almost impossible for me to do large ones.
