long arm quilting prices vary region to region and city to small towns like it has been stated. I longarm for others and I do it mostly as a hobby and to keep me buying fabric..hehe. My fee is .01 - .015, I don't do custom and just hand guided edge to edge pantos. I do have a minimum or $35. because I sometimes get baby quilts that are 36 x 45 and that would be $16.20.

The prices around the Central CA are a little lower than in So. Ca.

Some quilts are a breeze, backing squared, borders secured and not wavey. Other quilts have flange or are pieced on top and bottom, these take extra work, time and many times breaking thread and thats on the quilter's time.

I have a customer that always pays me more than I quote, very appreciated.

The coyote story reminds of an incident in college (1970's) when a girl asked another person to proofread her term paper. Well, the proofreader did so in RED pen! Nowadays you would just push "print" and redo it, but then she had no time to re-type the paper. Lesson learned, always discuss what you want/expect to be done beforehand.

I pay 1.5¢ a square inch. I'm in CA, so I may be higher than some. I use three different quilters, depending on what I want done. all charge the same.

I also have 4 quilts that need to go to the long armer because I just don't want to wrestle with them. The one I use is very good, and does all free-style custom work (not pantos) and I am sure she calculates the price by the inch, I just don't know her rate. Most of my quilts are about twin to full size, and I pay around $125-$150 each. I give her free creative control, just tell her to do what she thinks will look best (just no feathers as I don't like that look on my modern quilts). I think she enjoys being able to be more innovative on mine, but doubt that gives me any price break, LOL. And I will say that she is really busy, and I often will wait in queue 6 months to get one done. Just saving up a little before I send them off!!

Missouri Star does not charge for batting. I've calculated with and without and got the same final price. I've sent several to them.

Greentop, Mo., is the Gammill rep, Karen Farnsworth (Wildflower QS) with two or more LA run by computer. Very nice lady and very talented. Also, her mother and mother in law quilt with her.

I go just past Queen City, MO., not all the way to Green City to Ben and Ann Wheeler LA services. She is already pulling in quilters from Des Moines, Iowa, to Illinois with her reasonable charges. A big king's size cost me $185 for batting and backing and edge to edge quilting. Queen size is usually around $130 with batting included. PM me for more information if you wish. She is a minister's wife and is a lovely, lovely person. She asks me how I want it quilted and I just say 'you choose'. I am currently making her a quilt, called the Bible Sampler by Laura Aaron Hird.
