Long arm rulers
 

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a good source for some long arm rulers. I went to a training some time ago and she showed how a ruler helped her keep her SID straight. She also used a straight ruler to smooth out her curves, just by keeping her hand a bit steadier. Anyway, I've decided to get at least a straight ruler and maybe try a simply curved one for some free hand work, but as luck would have it, the place where I was told I can get them does not keep them in stock.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for where I can get these? Thanks in advance.

The rulers "stay" better than any others I've tried, but everyone has their favorites!

I've found this one works best for me in most circumstances - I can use it to follow some curves as well as to keep my hand steady for others.

I got some new ones from my Innova dealer. She has made them easy to hold on to. (the circles and other shapes). They are a big thicker as the Innova hopping foot hops a bit higher than other long arms. That will not make a difference for other machines. She also has videos on her site on ideas for using them. I learned SO much in my new owners class I thought my brain was leaking! lolol

joannes, nancy's notions, and keepsake quilting all offer a few long-arm rulers- the dealer for what ever long arm you own probably offers a much better selection-along with the ruler base you need for your machine to use rulers.

There is a disclaimer on the site that sells the Innova rulers. They are thicker than other rulers and so may not fit behind the presser foot of non-Innova machines.

I have also gone to Quilter's Rule for Rhonda's rulers. I have her medium and large crescent and the medium S curve.

My go to straight edge is 3" by 6" and etched with 1/4 and 1/2" as well as a 45 degree angle. It is my most favorite ruler but has been discontinued (was made by Willow leaf studios) For a straight edge don't get anything bigger than 6" long as longer can be difficult to control.

For circles I bought from here: http://www.deepbluetemplates.com/Lon...tes-s/1896.htm most reasonable prices EVER! Not etched with as many registration marks as I would like but worth it just the same. Can always do my own marks with an exacto knife.

You can always go to Home Depot or Lowes and have them cut 1/4 plexi for you too but you won't get the etched registration marks.

I use rulers by Kimmy Brunner. They are nice and thick, simple yet versatile. I have a strait ruler for SID, set of melon rulers for curved cross hatching, and a set of circles. All the rulers have slits so you can slide them around your hopping foot for additional sizes. I ordered them from her web site after taking her class quilting with templates on Craftsy.
