Long arm threads?
 

I would like to know what your favorite thread to use is, and why! Does it matter if you use serger thread? Or embroidery thread? In your long arm machine.

I use Superior Threads. I love King Tut colors, but it's a little to linty for me. I've since switched over to their new Omni beautiful colors and it's not as linty. But for thinner threads I use So Fine. Almost all the threads I use I match with Bottom Line in the bobbin.
I also enjoy using Isacord (embroidery thread) and Fil Tec. Both have a beautiful sheen to them. Hope that's helpful.

I use predominantly thread from Superior threads, which Re top quality. Also some signature thread for long arms, YLI. Inexpensive threads (cotton) creates a lot of lint and requires time to clean, cheap poly shreds. Basically whatever works In your machine......BUT you don't sew with cheap fabric, so don't skimp on your thread.

i buy most of my long-arm threads from connecting threads- the new machine quilting thread they are carrying is great. i also buy from superior threads.
i've used lots of serger thread- just have to make sure it is strong- a weak thread or cotton thread tends to break constantly due to the speed of the long-arm machine.
aurifil is a good machine quilting thread.
every machine has it's own personality though- so you will need to experiment and see what your machine likes best-
i've spent $16-$22 for a cone of machine quilting thread to find it is not usable with my machine no matter what i did-
every machine is different...as we all are too

I use embroidery thread most of the time, I get locally from the embroidery shop because i get a discount for buying a machine there. I pay 3.29 a spool for 1000m. I'm sure i could buy something cheaper online but i like being able to see the actual color so I can match it with the quilt and not need to buy more colors than I need. I have used Cotton thread when doing less dense quilting. but the finer embroidery thread works realy well when you have a dense design. they have now come out with a low sheen embroidery thread that is polyester.

I also use mostly threads from Superior. I have a small collection of Signature that I picked up at a longarm yard sale our LA guild had.

I have used a customer's variegated thread in my bobbin, but never again. While it worked fine, it just took way too many bobbin fills, even with a M bobbin. Bottom Line from Superior Threads is the only way to go!

I am a Superior Threads shopper. I get King Tut from Superior because the variegateds are really great color combinations. I also use So Fine quite a bit.
I also use Signature thread from another supplier once in a while.
I've not used serger thread in my longarm, so I can't give an opinion. I have tried a trilobal polyester thread which can be used in embroidery and had some tension issues with my longarm. I got the tension issues resolved, but then didn't like the way the thread looked on the quilt.

I'm not a machine quilter - but I use Superior Threads for just about everything.
Bottom Line is a fabulous thread.

I love to use King Tut in my HQ 16, but I have used it a couple of different times at work and that machine does NOT like it.
I have used Auriful, Star, Signature, and embroidery threads also.

I love Superior Threads. Plus their website is so helpful.

Welcome from northeast Nebraska. I just purchased a Mega Quilter (not a LA) but haven't gotten it set up yet. Am glad to know what kinds of thread I may able to have good luck with, when I'm ready. Good luck to you.

I just bought some MollyPoly thread from a woman on SewItsforSale yahoo group. I love this in my KenQuilter short-arm machine. There is VERY little lint, and it seems to be a good quality thread. Of course, my quilts are never going to be entered into a show, so for daily use, this is fine for me. I asked where to purchase this MollyPoly thread, and she sent me a link http://www.hunterheirloomquilting.co...mart&Itemid=94 and it's economical, too.

Superior Threads. I use Bottom line bobbins and So Fine on my APQS Lenni. If you go online, look at the APQS Forum, it is an open blog similiar to this but dedicated to Long-Arm quilters and quilting.

Thread matters a lot. Unless the thread is strong, it will break, over and over again, spoiling your work and leaving knots and tangles. Superior Threads web site has lots of good information and is an excellent source of threads.

Here's a little tip. If you're getting a lot of lint from a certain thread, try using the next size larger needle. Most of the time that does the trick. The thread is rubbing on the needle and in the eye which causes lint.

Wow, great info here. I've been thinking these past several years of buying a LA and love all the input you give. Helps in making that big expensive move a bit easier.

I'm a shop owner and a longarmer and we use Superior Threads and King Tut both work great. What you are using now is really not the best for your machine,lots of lint. Hope this is helpful
