Longarm question

I just received a customer quilt and the batting she supplied is very high loft polyester. Though I have used high loft poly before with no problem, the loft in this batting is somewhat higher and a LA'er at my guild meeting said I would have real problems with this lofty batting. I have a Nolting and have never had problems with anything. None the less, I am interested in any tips you other LA'ers can give me. Thanks!!!!!

Tip: Don't listen to someone who says you will have a problem. :)

I'm not a very experienced long armer, but Dunster's advise is right on the money. If you think you will have a problem, you probably will. That has been my experience in everything, not just quilting. Never doubt yourself. Good luck with the quilt, and show it to us when you are done. I'm sure it will be beautiful.

I agree -it may work fine-most good long arms can handle any batting

I have double batted plenty of quilts without a problem. Many times Hobbs Poly down is one of the layers and is pretty lofty. My friend did two layers of wool. And those that do trapunto, like Karen McTavish go for the real high loft stuff for that. I think you will be just fine.

This. Listen with one ear open - as they say. :) I would go ahead and attempt it. If it causes you issues contact your customer. I have heard so many warnings that didn't play true to my own experience...the best advice I can give is try for yourself and then you'll know. I have been quilting for more than ten years and haven't found a batting that I couldn't use or would turn away. Of course I have preferences...but not everyone can afford to spend $50 on wool batting for a baby or bang around quilt. I buy cheapie high loft poly for my own play around quilts all the time. ;)
