This was probably answered before but I cannot find it on "search". I'm racing to get out some Christmas gifts and usually quilt my own but I'm taking these quilts to a professional. After cutting out the borders I remembered that quilts that are going to be quilted with a longarm machine need extra fabric around the border to be trimmed off later. Can I just cut the batting and backing larger? If not, can I add scrap fabric all around to the front to make it larger? Thank you for your response.

Only the backing and batting need to be larger than the quilt top :D:D:D

Typically 6 to 8 inches total to the batting and backing allow room for the LA'er to clamp the quilt to the machine. The final trim on the top should be minimal.
