This picture is taken at the lady's house where I bought these two wall units last week. It is now in my house.

Alaska Sunshine, on this board, has been my hero ever since she posted her tutorial on organizing fabric. Now, I just need to go get the boards.

I am ready for that room to look like someone loves it again.

Wall Units just waiting for fabric to adorn its shelves. The middle section on the right is able to hold my thread. I put my serger in the lower unit with the doors.

No, I'm afraid I have way too much stash to fit in there, but it is going to be a big help.

I am so thankful to have a place where my thread and serger isn't getting dusty.

Jingle 09-06-2010 03:39 PM

I hope one of these days.

I'm very busy right now getting ready for our big quilt show October 8-10. We'll have more than 400 quilts on display.

I will leave it like it is. I wasn't too concerned with its color; I just wanted some storage units.

littlehud 09-06-2010 06:59 PM

Oh my, what perfect shelves for organizing a room. So pretty.

Leota 09-06-2010 07:03 PM

Nice...
Is it solid wood ?

dkabasketlady 09-06-2010 07:56 PM

Good for you!! I keep looking too and I'll know it when I see it! I'm in NO hurry, my fabric's not going anywhere without me,lol!!

mommamac 10-24-2010 05:14 PM

I have similar cabinets in old house that I use for china. Now I'm kind of hoping they won't look right in the house we're moving too!!

nativetexan 10-24-2010 05:28 PM

yep, that's what i was doing while in an antique store. looking at furniture and thinking of where i could stash my fabric on all the shelves.

AnnieF 10-24-2010 06:30 PM

I love your shelving unit. Having someplace where you can see your fabric always makes it easier to pick from when you're ready to select fabric for a quilt.

A warning, I was told early on in my quilting life, that if you are storing your fabric on shelves, make sure they are not stained wood but painted shelves. It has something to do with the stain on the wood being absorbed by your fabric and staining it. Paint seals in the wood. If you prefer the wood look, make sure that you line the wood shelves before putting your fabric in it.

I saw something similar today that someone had put near the street for trash pickup. If only I had a truck!

franie 10-24-2010 06:39 PM

Nice find.

katied772 10-24-2010 06:53 PM

Betcha can store lots of fabrics in there. Add some small baskets for little pieces of fabric.

craftiladi 10-25-2010 09:24 AM

Great find!!! don't ya just love getting items you can repurpose. Have fun loading it up.

RkayD 10-25-2010 09:33 AM

I've been using her tut to organize my fabric. But I could only get 4 boards to the sheet on the foam core board. And at $3 a sheet it was not going to be cost effective for a large stash like mine. So I took my happy self to Lowe's to see what they had that I could use. I came across some underlayment for flooring. Its about the same as the foam that the chicken and meat come wrapped in from the grocery. It comes in a pack..that is about $37. Seems steep but I can get 12 boards out of a sheet and there are many many sheets to a pack. So....I have been happily wrapping fabric and I'm amazed at how much I have and JOYED by the fact that I can SEE it all!

quiltingmimipj 10-25-2010 09:41 AM

Thank you all for your responses to my post. The quilt show is over, and I am now working on the shelves again. However, next week it's off to Houston. One day -- I'm really going to get them loaded.
