I found this extender at Jo-Ann's. The table measures 18x24. It has legs that you have to push and turn on the bottom, which also have those screws like on the bottom of appliances for leveling. There are 6 of them so it feels pretty sturdy. This is an extension table for a rotary cutter/embosser machine made by Simplicity.
I have a Viking D1 machine. If I leave my accessory case attached the table opening is to small, when I remove it the table is to large. To remidy that I purchased a piece of white no-melt mylar template plastic. I took my needle plate and traced the hole onto the mylar then cut a hole for the machines needle. I then applied a couple of pieces of duct tape (man and womans best friend) and the mylar doesn't move. The table was $39.00...but with a 40% off coupon.....wooo hooo!!!!! The sheet of mylar was two bucks, and... the mylar is slippery so fabric glides over it. I have not tried the teflon slippery mat so I don't know if it is comparible to that or not. simplicity extension table mylar template |
Beautiful machine!! Good luck with the table attachment!

great find and great idea for the hole
|
That is nice! The extension tables really do help. I have one for 2 of my machines but the 3ed one is probably too old for them to fit on. It is more round like. Glad you like yours!
|
I saw that last week and was wonderin if it would work the same way.....thanks for posting!
|
You will need to cut the opening larger to accommodate your feed dogs. If you don't have your feed dogs exposed you won't be feeding any fabric through.
Great idea and great table. I am lucky to have a sewing table that my machine sits down in for a level surface. |
awesome idea, thanks for sharing with us
|
That is so cool. You are so inventive.

LQS here sells it for $400.00. yes, you saw that right!!!!
i almost ell over, kept on walking by, she said it was only for the'experienced quilter' and those who knew qulity items! i guess she thought she readjusted my nose!! so glad you got it at a great price luckily, my new machine *(on sale only 139.00 came with one) |
In regards to cutting the hole larger to accomidate the feed dogs. Yes....I did have to do that tonight. I can't believe that I didn't think of that until I tried sewing. Huh....imagine that my fabric isn't moving.
Good thing we can laugh at ourselves. |
That is such a great idea! I might try this. I am too cheap to pay $80 for the one that goes with my machine. Thank you for posting this.
|
Lynn2354--Have you cut the hole to fit the feed dogs? I have a Designer I also, so I am really curious on how you feel this works for you! Maybe it would work for me too.
|
Sure wish I'd seen this a month ago. I ordered a steady table to go with my new machine. They said they had to "order it as a custom". It has been 28 days and it still isn't here.
Yep, I'm annoyed. Thank you for sharing how you did it. |
I also have a Designer 1, and an SE which is my fav. :D (I also have a really great hubby who buys me these great machines) I have the extension table that was included with the Quilter's kit years ago and I love it. Luckily it fits on both machines. The Mylar sheet is a great idea. I have the teflon matt with the hole for the needle and it works well. I wish I could make my free motion work as well. :? You found a great deal! You must have a better JAF store than we do. Good luck!

Template plastic is a great idea for making a single hole plate if you can cut for feed dogs and seeing as I'm going to get my new machine I may be able to get my old extension table to fit! |

Hi Fox, I used this last night and I am very pleased with it. I did end up cutting a square hole that exposed the feed dogs. The opening is approximately 1½" square, so it extends far enough to see the marks for stitching lines. I am VERY pleased with this purchase!!!  I looked at Jo-Ann's web site and they carry the smaller tablle, however I am not seeing the larger one. Here is a link though where the large one can be purchased. http://www.simplicity.com/p-5308-del...ion-table.aspx Square opening |

thats an awesome idea- I havent seen them for less than 80 bucks!I wonder if they work with all machines?
|
What a wonderful idea! You are very smart & crafty. Hey....whatever works without it costing 2 boobs and an arm.
|
i got a smoky acrylic table top to go around my machine a few yrs ago but just took it off. i found when trying to quilt a whole quilt, the quilt would get caught on the corners of the table. drove me nuts!! so it's off for now.
|
I covered my whole table with heavy weight clear plastic
purchased by the yard at JoAnn's & cut the hole for the feed dogs in it. |
