I also have this machine,although I piece now mainly with my Janome just because of the bigger harp. I do all my labels on it though with the embroidery attachment...you will get hooked. It is a lovely machine.

I have TWO Designer Ones so, trust me, you ARE lucky!!!

I just bought a used Viking quilt designer a couple of weeks ago and I LOVE IT!!! Lucky you and hooray for mama just giving it to you!!!!!

Use the embroidery. After a learning curve, I think you will be hooked.
