I plan to make an "I SPY" quilt for my grandkids and would love pattern suggestions. I'm looking for a very scrappy look so that the items to "I Spy" aren't completely obvious but a bit more challenging! Thanks for your input! 8-)

if you want a real challenge, make it Grandmother's Flower Garden hexagons :)

Just go to the top of this page and click on "search" and then type in "I spy" and surely, a bunch of posts will pop up - should take you right to some ideas.

I like this one a lot:

I also honestly like when 4" squares are just pieced together with nothing in between. It makes everything blend together, which I think makes spotting them harder.

I like this one- but the sashing makes the spy blocks easier to differentiate: http://www.quilt-lovers-guide.com/images/ISpyQuilt.jpg

The piecing isn't a challenge though, but you want a "spying" challenge- right?

For a piecing challenge- I like the tumbling blocks:

Google I spy, then images, lots will come up. I think you might like the D9P. Use your large items in the corners, your small prints in the sides, and a common color in the centers to tie it all together.

I have been looking at these for my DGSs too.

I just finished a top for my grandson and I used 6" blocks before seams. Just made rows with no sashing between. I used 2 border fabrics that were solids and am going to bind with stripes. Easy, easy.

Here is a google image search for I Spy Ideas:

I have made 2 of the hexgon I Spy's (shown in the images in link above) with red triangles for my grandchildren and have 4 more sets of hexagons cut out for the other grandchildren. It's fun to collect the fabrics. I also enjoy the fussy work involved in marking and cutting out the hexagon...you can't rush the process so it's relaxing.
