Looking for Brick&Mortar fabric store NY or PA maybe?
 

A few years back I heard about a fabric store that had a huge variety of fabrics, even vintage stuff. It was in NY or PA, and a friend and I planned to side trip to the store on a visit to NY city from Michigan. The trip didn't happen then, but we are planning to go this summer. I cannot remember the name of the store and googling hasn't helped.

Does anyone know this store?

there is one called Fieldstone House in Franklin NY. it has a lot of fabric and out in the country. Not easy to find. Very packed with fabric but you can not expect any sales the prices are all the same as every other quilt shop I live right on the border of Pa. and Ny state and that is the only one I can think of right now although there are a lot of shops around

You can try going to Quilting Hub or Row by Row and putting in your route. Both sites will have a map of Quilt Shops along the way. Maybe the one you remember will be there.

I was also thinking Fieldstone house but Zooks in Intercourse PA is also packed with loads of fabric. Some people have said it looks more like a hoarders than a fabric shop. Fieldstone House you have to call in advance (a few days to play it safe!) to see if they are there as they spend most weekends traveling to quilt shows as a vendor.

Edited to add, I would opt for Zooks as that is right in the heart of Amish country and there are loads of shops in the area and all are very reasonably priced.

If you get to RI ck out Ryco's Lincoln RI...OMG the biggest and best and great prices...It's a Quilters Dream Warehouse of Fabric, Trims etc...They have a website you can ck out

I was thinking Fieldstone House too. It's not hard to find but is quite a long way from NYC. If you go to Zooks, you could also go to Obies which is similar to Fieldstone except even more crowded. The Lancaster area offers a plethora of great quilt stores so I, like feline fanatic, would recommend going there.

Thanks for the posts. We are driving from Detroit area, so there are good routes that would take us near Franklin, NY or Intercourse, PA. We may try Fieldstone House on this trip. Looks like Intercourse would need at least a whole day!

The store I remember also had a collection of old fabrics. I am specifically looking for double knits like they used in clothes in the 70's. I have 4 quilts my great grandmother made from double knits, and I need some replacement pieces.

I know there is a shop on the main drag that is an Amish store with all kinds of things and fabrics stacked up. I remember that it was really hard getting this one fabric out but the prices were amazing. That was years ago and I would have to try to find out the name for you, but it’s in PA I think it was near Reading?

If your adventures take you near Lancaster County, PA, you will find fabric stores and quilt shops Everywhere. Well, that might be a slight exaggeration but we have many. This is an Amish and Mennonite community with many ladies who make beautiful quilts....hence the need for many quilt shops. PM if you would like a list that I keep on file.

Also they price pretty much all their fabric in that $12 per yard range, even the old stuff that when it was new retailed for half that amount. Their draw is they have a lot of old discontinued lines that are near impossible to find, as well as new lines.

Obie's Country Store is in Goodville, PA. A trip there is on my bucket list.

They have really "cleaned up" Zook's. And there are probably 8 or so other shops within a ten mile radius. Three are right there in Intercourse. And one about four miles down the road (on the same road) in Bird In Hand. I was just there on Monday.

Obie's is, as far as I'm concerned, a safety hazard! Rarely do I go into a store and leave without finding something to buy. It's so packed that the "aisles" are difficult to navigate, fabric bolts are stacked one on top of the other and layers deep, all the way to the ceiling. No thanks! I don't remember anything other than woven cotton (quilting fabric), but was quite overwhelmed, so could be wrong.

I agree. I went to Obie's once and couldn't leave fast enough. I'm not claustrophobic but felt like it in the store. Mostly my reason for leaving was logical - I couldn't see how to get a fabric bolt out of a pile without it all coming down on top of me. No fun to be in a fabric store when you can't buy anything.
