Looking to buy a Serger.... A few questions
 

I would like to buy a simple Serger to serge the seams of the fabric I buy. I am hoping to do this before I wash my fabric. Hopefully the fabric will fray less. I tend to not wash the fabric due to this issue. Are there any sergers out there that are easy to use and fairly inexpensive. I have been looking at the Janome Juno. Any info would be appreciated.

You could check your local Craigslist. I got a Singer serger that was only 2 yrs old and sold for $300 new for $80. I just use mine for the same thing you are wanting to do and the rare inside seam of Pajama pants.

I have a 4 thread White serger. There is nothing simple about a serger. I have to get my husband to thread it for me because I can't do it. Can't you just run a line down the fabric from a regular machine? I don't know why I keep holding on to the thing. I love it but it's too much of a pain to set up.

I really like the Baby Lock sergers. They are self threading and they are great machines. I had a Singer and didn't use it because of threading and tension problems. I bought a Baby Lock and use it all the time. It's VERY easy to use.

I have 2 sergers and wouldn't be without one, threading is easy...just clip your threads long enough to tie your new spools of thread on and pull thru...easy!!!!! Been doing it that way forever.

I, too, purchased a used one from CL. Not quite the deal that auntpiggylpn got, but good enough for me. After having it serviced and taking some basic classes - haven't even used it. Which is why I wasn't interested in paying big $$ for one. But I have it and can manage some basics at this point. Worth what I paid.

My hubby got me a Husqvarna Viking serger on Craigslist about 2 yrs ago, great price ... but I'm embarrassed to say that I have NOT used it yet ... the threading intimidates me, tho if I tried it I might surprise myself that I waited so dang long. I know there are tute online how to thread it, and it did come with all the accessories and a video tutorial...shame on me.

I have the Brother 1034D serger.. not to pricey and it works great!!!

You dont need to buy a serger, you can just overcast stitch with your regular sewing machine using an overcast foot
