I dont know the ins and outs of ergonomics when it comes to quilting but I know I need a more comfortable chair. I want one on wheels and I need one that will accomodate my large size. Can anyone recommend a good chair? The most I can pay is $200.00. Just wondering if anyone has a chair that they're very happy with. Thanks.

I have an office chair that is vinyl and has a lever to raise it up and down so that my feet can actually be on the floor (I am short...barely 5 foot so having my feet on the floor is a good thing for me. It has wheels and rolls around very easily. My thighs are short and I am able to sit back in the chair like you should and touch the floor flatly with my feet. We bought it about a year ago for $40 at Rite Aid. I hope that you find yourself a good chair as it is very important to be comfy while quilting.

I bought 2 chairs for myself last year, one for quilting one for my computer area and I bought Office chairs, they swivel, are height adjustable and comfortable ergonomically padded. BTW I got the pair for under £100!

I would suggest you got to EBay and search for "Office Chairs" you will be surprised at the variety now available, mine fit in with my decor beautifully.

I bought a Horn chair last year. It is like a typists chair, and swivels and is height adjustable. I like this one because it doesn't have arms on it, so I don't have to squeeze my bum when I sit down!! I also have a similar chair for the computer. Neither was very expensive, both under Aus$50 new. Not sure what you would pay where you are.

I'm in the minority... I have a padded folding chair in my sewing room. I thought it would be comfy enough but it wasn't... So I put a thick chairpad on it and now I like it a lot better. My room is very small and cramped and I don't have the physical floor space for the wheelbase of a rolly chair.
I used to have one and it was a pain in my cramped corner so I had to let it go :(

You can also try a seat pad and one of those mesh ergonomic back support jobbers - you can pick one of those up at Walmart. It didn't stay on my chair and now my son uses it as a shield when he pretends to play sword fight and he won't give it up lol.

Go to an office supply store and sit in every one of their chairs. My husband and I each picked a different chair as "most comfortable". By the way, the vinyl one is wearing out fast and it wasn't very cheap.

When I was looking for a chair, one of the things I wanted was the ability to raise it higher than most task/office chairs, but not as high as a drafting chair. It needed to do double duty at my sewing table and at my computer desk, which are different heights. This goes up to 22", which is at least 1" higher than most task chairs.

I also did not want leather or faux leather as I find it uncomfortably warm. The microfiber is perfect for me.

Didn't find it in this listing, but I think that someplace I read that the chair is designed for up to 250 lbs. I'd never really thought about it before, but many of the task chairs out there are evidently not made for those of us who are fluffy.

I just purchased a rolling chair from Staples. It is very comfortable. It has posturpedic memory foam in the chair. The chair adjust in all ways and came in at $150 US. It has arms but for sewing they can be lowered all the way down. If there is no good office supply store near you remember staples.com, etc. Also remember when getting a rolling chair to get one with 5 legs not just four for stability. If I remember correctly this chair is also made for those of us who are fluffy.

If you have an office supply store nearby run give their chairs a try. Office Depot and Office Max have great sales and usually free shipping on items over a certain $ amount if you buy online. I have an oversized Parsons chair without arms that I use for sewing and just love it. I do have wonderful Office Depot exec type leather chairs at both computers upstairs that are great as well. They were around $150 on sale.
